Naked Neck/Turken Thread

I'll take some of the cock-birds! (My Choice)....

LOL! Are you coming to get them? Because that's quite a commute. (And I'm still not willing to part with Monty.

I know chickens eat things no one wants to think about but if my chickens gobbled down that container full of flies (sans poison), I'd be loth to eat so much as one bite of chicken. If they eat the live maggots from wince the flies hatched....no problem for me to gobble down chicken. I guess we all have our personal gag-factors, be they reasonable or not.

as I don't butcher my chickens I really don't care what they eat' and when I started to keep chickens I stopped to eat chicken meat, so another reason I wouldn't mind if they ate flies from the trap. if the trap is with vinegar, would that be pickled flies?

Here are desertchic's chicks a week and a half later:

I just finished their brick enclosure so they are not outside birds!

It never ceases to amaze me how quickly they grow and feather out. Give them another week and they'll be trying to perch! So cute!

I'm still partial to those grayish colored ones. I'm really curious to see how those turn out. I took a current photo of Peta, my gray+ NN cockerel with feathered shanks. He is SOOOO sweet and so pretty, but feathered out with a lot more color than I'd expected. I'm now starting to think that Shiloh snuck in there at some point instead of Heisenberg to make this pretty boy. I'll probably hang onto him a lot longer than I'd originally planned to. (My other feathered shanks NN boy, Finnig, is in the background in the top photo.)

Making some hard cull decisions today. I've picked out 6 of my older hens, my Aloha rooster, 2 young 21 weeks old cockerels, 4 young pullets ( from the last hatch 5/28) and 2 cockerels from the last hatch.

I'm taking he Aloha out if my breeding program, and doing away with the green Egger NN Project.

I'll continue the Calico project from the Mottled NN's only. Keeping the White and blacks and reds.

I'm considering taking on another project, but won't say too much about it until I decide for sure.

I think you should make a bachelor pen and make people come to watch them, paying the entrance of course. then you could keep all of those beautiful boys.

I plan to hatch NN/marans eggs hoping to get some feather legged chicks. they should be mostly black so I will finally have somewhat black NNs.

I tried to hatch green egger NNs but the only chick that developed died in the shell. I put my new girls in my araucana pen and hope to get some green egger from them.

keep posting pics of your beautiful chickens. what breed will you use in creating green egger NNs?
