Naked Neck/Turken Thread

So, I had three possible NN mix eggs in my incubator and TWO came out with little bare necks and bowties! I'm so excited! They won't be good for my (in my head) Brabanter project, but I'm excited to be part of the NN crowd now

Welcome to the NN crowd! We truly do love this breed here. I suspect you will come to love them a lot too. NNs have the most amazing personalities.

So if I was to do a market trip what would I be feeding them from day one to show.

I know that feed is a matter of personal preference, but I personally start all of my chicks, irrespective of breed, on a very high protein gamebird feed for the first 1-4 weeks of their life. With the NNs specifically, this results in amazingly quick feathering and growth. Once they're well feathered I begin dropping the protein level while monitoring growth rates until they're approaching POL, at which time I typically place them on a standard layer feed. All of that said, I've never shown birds so those who do may have a different recommendation.

@Nava Did you ever use this one in any of your project birds? I have one like this one, only he doesn't have as much red coating on him.

l @Dipsy Doodle Doo. Do you still have any that are descended from this green egg laying line? I've got my on project going on, but not getting anywhere too fast with it.

Hm, is anyone currently working on CCLB x NN projects?? I'd love to find a use for my extra Legbar pullets that aren't exactly up to SOP but are great birds regardless, I figured with the NNs there'd be some interesting crosses. Was considering putting the barred cockerel with the spare legbars and seeing what madness they produce next year.

That'd be a good project. I haven't done this myself as I don't really care for Legbars, but it's a barring thing with me.I don't care for barring, I do have it in my I'm just careful with it.

Okay I love the white tail on this beauty. @Kev, could I get some like this if I done a Red Sexlink Cross?

UGH! Our weather yesterday was nasty, cold, and wet....so naturally my birds decided to rearrange themselves in different pens/coops last night. Rather than put them back and prolong my misery in the foul weather, I just left them all where they decided they wanted to go. Big mistake. I went out this morning to find Zazzle horribly bloodied, as was his pen. Heisenberg has been winning fights lately and decided to kick Pepper and Peta out of the Turken Condo, leaving them homeless, so they decided to stay in the Easter Egger pen for the night...with Zazzle. Poor boy. Thankfully there doesn't appear to be any serious damage, but what a mess! Now I'm waiting to see what I'll have to do tonight to keep the peace. I really need to get around to butchering some extra birds.

@draye - If you lived closer I would GIVE Pepper to you for your birchen project right now. I just have way too many really wonderful roosters around here.
