Hello little one! Those are first NN from your own birds, right?
Yep!!! I'm on day 20, and of 10 of the Tank x GNH eggs that made it to lock down, I have three out, and six more pipped already. They are CAREENING around the hatcher!!!! (Well, in between power naps...) Two of the six Goodwin x Marans chicks are out, one other pipped. I'm waiting until tomorrow morning to move them to the brooder - we'll see if there are more to join them by then.
Well, I woke up to a hatcher full of chicks (I love it when that happens!). You can see one mid-hatch on the right.
7 of the Tank x GNH NN chicks with one that hatched right when I walked up, and 4 of the Goodwin x Marans chicks.
They're in the brooder now (except the newly hatched one who needs to dry off). The Maran crosses are ALL kinds of crazy vigorous and spunky!!! Chatting and eating and drinking. For two of them, I think they were fed up with being in the hatcher for ~12 hours. The NN are resting quietly, but happy and healthy - they are small, but they also came from smallish pullets eggs.
The two last Tank x GNH eggs have pips - one was the last one, pipped overnight, and one has a weird high pip (near the apex of the egg). The two remaining Marans don't have pips - I'm thinking maybe they aren't viable. But we'll wait to see what happens today.
All the NN chicks look about the same right now, yellow with bowties (no surprise). I don't have great photos of the Marans yet, but one is more silver/blue downed than the others, two (I think) are black with yellowish belly, and one has small yellow accents, but is more black. When they're fully fuzzy and running around more, I'll be better able to get good photos.
The last of the Tank x GNH eggs that went into lock down is zipping now, so it looks like all of those making it to lock down made it.
(Two of Goodwin x Maran eggs didn't)
I have another incubator cooking on day 4 right now with 5 Puppy eggs, 1 Switch egg (I think), and 6 Goodwin x Arbequina (the olive egger). I also have another 11 of the Tank x GNH eggs saved (in case these didn't do well). I think I really need to NOT set those... I'll scramble them and feed them to the babies later this week, I think.
How much egg do you give your babies? (I mean ratio of number of eggs to number of babies.) I don't want to give them too much at one time...
