Naked Neck/Turken Thread

Silkie feathers are not dominant. A silkies cross has regular feathers, but had feathered feet and a weird comb. I have a Silkie/NN right now, but she is only about 2 weeks right now.

It looks like so far she is going to have a single comb. It's really non-existent at her 7.5 weeks of age. That makes sense and I do know there are partridge silkies so her dad or mom could have had that coloring. I'm glad to be learning more!

I know nothing about the genetics. I know TSC silkies are not small, pretty close to normal size chickens, probably crossed at some point with leghorn I figure cause mine were great layers. I crossed them with Jersey Giant and ended up with some fm (black skin) and some not, none had the silkie feathering, all did have five toes, some with leg feathering and some not. The offspring were not any bigger than the silkies from TSC but I didn't keep any cockerel they might have ended up big IDK. I just crossed one of those fm silkie/giants with a naked neck and ended up with one out of three being fm.

I got her from ebay in a selection of barnyard mix eggs. All hens and roos were purebred but I can't seem to find the ad. So I am at a loss. There was like 26 different hens and 4 different roosters in their barn. If only I could find the ad.

I have a naked neck with black skin and partridge like feathers with feathered feet. What could she be? I can't seem to find any that look like her and because she is such a clown I can't seem to get a good picture...she is behind her hatch sister..

Quote: I'm not sure what is meant by "purebred" for Naked Necks - the presence of a naked neck only means presence of the gene for that. Your girl is very pretty - she looks a lot like my Mystique (except yours has dark skin extending beyond the face darker skin and feathers a little lighter):

(I got her directly from a hatchery.)

You can see the rooster below - he has a rose comb. He's also form a hatchery. "real" or "pure" (or whatever) Naked Necks do NOT have rose combs - lots of mixes out there.

She is one of my favorites and the sweetest thing. Probably my only chicken that "likes" to cuddle. I need to get her to sit still and maybe one day I'll have a worthy photo of her and not one she photobombed haha!

there are purebred NNs - they are called transylvanian naked neck. you can find them in different european countries. they have single comb and breed true. you can find mostly black, white and black/white (at least in greece) although there are mixed colours too. black/white chickens look a lot like silver campine.

I ordered 2 black pullets, pure transylvanian naked neck. when I get them I will post the pics.

So if u want photos i can only text them

I cant hold for none sorry , cash is KING

AS you all know i can never get all the money i have put into these birds

But i have enjoyed every minute i spent with them. Im not even keeping 1 baby chick. So i guess i can sell poultry supplies if u need some. But most of them will end up at the auction block

Boar goats are on the list too

Wow, I wish I lived near you I would buy a few NNs... sorry Nava for your predator problems.

Oh, I realize that, I should have been more clear - int he US, it's uncommon to get those type NNs from hatcheries, and there is so frequently other stuff mixed in. It's not really the same as the way folks talk about other breeds... At least best I can tell.

I think this is the case with any hatchery bird, be it a naked neck or any other hatchery breed. I'm pretty sure we still have actual pure naked necks just as sure as we have any other pure breed in the US. Saying naked necks are only pure breed if they are 'Transylvanian' is like saying Langshans are only pure if they are labeled 'Croads' which is actually all we have in the US in actuality...
IMHO of course, I have no scientific proof...

Edit; quoted you but speaking out loud, not being critical of your post. Just the subject matter before hand
