Naked Neck/Turken Thread

kev,
Just wondering if I would have to use a black NN roo and white leghorn hen, or could it go back the other way..with a black NN
Hen and a white leghorn roo..
I have a black hen and can get the white roo. BTW my NN are the best chickens that I have, if I didn't have so much invested in my other breeds I would dump them all.

Kev, could you PM me? For some reason I can't send Pm's but I can reply to them.

I'm still interested in a LF blue NN if you decide to sell one of yours. In addition I'd like to have a bantam, either blue, splash or lavender. If you can tell me what you have then I'll be able to figure it out. That's if flower is going to be picking up birds from you. I need to know now so I can make arrangements with flower. The meet up is quickly approaching and I won't be able to stop thinking chickens until it's over. Thanks!

You could do that, no problem. Just be sure not to inbreed for too many generations.. Best to select for healthy birds, for example a big healthy bird with big bowtie is much better to use than a bird with smooth neck or very small bowtie but was a little weak or not as robust, so don't make the bowtie the only thing to breed for.

That was a charming picture! Purring and bathing on carpet, what a hoot. Many years ago left the door open when I went outside. A hour or so later, came back inside to find of of the NN hens already starting to lay an egg under the computer desk.. Had to wait to let her finish before herding her back out. Geez!

Mort is showing the personality found in many NN that makes them charming & part of what makes some of us such fans of the breed. My very first one(McMurray, after the hatchery she came from) was so much like that, minus the crowing. Let's hope it is a dominant trait!

No difference either way.. result would be same, either all white or mostly white with occasional black speck. You'll have to let us know what sort of layers the cross pullets are.. I've done almost every kind of cross/mix/breeding with NN but leghorns are something I never tried crossing with..

One more thing about white on leghorns, it does not cover up red/gold colors too well so if they are crossed with brown/buff/reds, will eventually end up with white birds showing brown wash on their body, or a white cockerel that grows up white and then gets red on the hackles and wing bow. If someone tries this cross and gets this sort of color, it means the black parent wasn't pure for black...

Oh wow I noticed others didn't get PM's from you either. Hmm! I didn't get any from you real recently either.. did not get one about lavenders if you asked. Letting you know about this and will respond so you know I sent one tonight..

PM sent just now.

Kev, the only rooster that I have besides the little showgirl is a Brabanter. Can you tell me if the brabanter has black dominate color if I use him over my hens assuming that I will have NN LF and bantam some day ?

Good question. Will have to find out what their genotype is(genetic make up). It also depends on what the other birds have. I know for black x brabanter, do expect blacks probably with some color leaking through somewhere on the body. Let me do some look up on possible brabanter genotype and get back to you..

btw sebrights are actually black(birchen black) base.. would never have figured that out by looking at them..

Are you really planning to do brabanter NN cross? Brabanter type crest is one of the few things I did not work with either... would be very interested in your results if you do!

p.s. did you try PMing me? did you get the one with link to video?
