Naked Neck/Turken Thread

KKH when I had a frizzle chick, I could tell in a few days. As soon as the wing feather pop put you can see them turn upward which means frizzle. I can not tell what colors they will be but blue, blue and splash come to mind.

bhazzell123 The very same applies to you colors except they surely will have blue coloration since both parents carry the blue gene. The father being BLR and the mother looks half blue also. But I do not know what color the front feather are ??

Most of you on here may know that I am not allowed to keep chickens but I do keep some chicks here until they are ready to go to the "farm" where a friend and I share our knowledge and help each other.
Betty has more than two acres and all of her chickens are from me so she cares for mine and I visit etc.

Since my LF hens were looking featherless I put the two large fowl males into a pen by themselves and for a a few months they have co-exhisted without much problems. Yesterday Betty found my large and older White Americana pouncing on the young BLR/NN. Betty said that she went into the pen and picked him up and he was limp but did lift his head to complain. Today I brought him home to my garage to watch and nurse him. He is alert but unable to stand up although he does try but can not seem to get his feet under him to stand. And when I pick he up and try to put some weight on his feet he falls over. This is the first time I have seen anything like this but so far I have not kept two adult males in one pen and not let them out to range. I really do not like not taking care of my own flock. I need to work on changing my life style.

I am sorry Flower! I hope you can get him fixed up!
Having a bachelor pen never worked for me either. The fighting was so much worse when they were confined.
Let us know how your boy is doing!

She's got pretty coloring! She has a pretty chicken face too. . . how many people say that?!
thank you I think she has a Purdy chicken face too :) on the back of her head she has a little red in it she is too funny looking and only has one black spot on her back :)

Well, you've just convinced me NOT to have a bachelor pen. Hope your NN boy will pull through. Glad Betty found him in time.

My NN boy is very alert this morning and eating and drinking when food is placed in front of him. I had to hold him and remind him to drink. Upon further assessment, the entire R side of his body is not working. It is as if he had brain damage as in a R sided stroke. I can pull his leg and his wind and it doesn't seem to cause pain but he can not move either voluntarily . Now I will need to wait and wait some more to see if any improvement will occur.

Is there any resistance at all or is it completely flacid (the R wing and leg)? Are his pupils normal and equal?

Flower-

very sad. I am so sorry :( I have two young cockerels together, and was going to leave them together with girls. You have me worried now. Maybe I will build them separate housing in a few months. I truly hope you are able to figure out what is wrong, and rehabilitate him.

I am glad he is better but sorry about his paralysis. You could try pumping him up with some B vitamins to see it could help him regain anything he had lost? Egg yolks are a good source of biotin which also helps regenerate nerve function.

This evening while holding Hector (that is his name) he could put partial weight on his legs but needed me to support him half way or he falls over. Yes his eyes are equal. And his R wing is not flaccid but he still does not move it (yet) he does not seem to be in pain but seems a little confused. If I hold a cup of water in front of him, he ignores it but if I shake it so he hears the water, he ducks in a takes a long drink. He is a big beautiful bird and I hope that he does recover. I am not sure what to do with the other rooster but I am thinking of sending him away.

The way Betty told the story the white Am was flying up and jumping on Hector who was not resisting at the point that she found them. I don't see much in the way of bruises but there are some feathers missing on his back where the neck starts.
