I don't know if you need a nickname.
My flock all respond to their names. I have a hen named Vinnie because first I thought it was a rooster when she was younger plus my sister refuses to name her son Vinnie so I could call him Cousin Vinnie. Vinnie has no idea it isn't a typical hen name.
