Nankin Discussion Thread

Can anyone help me out and identify these bantams? A neighbor bought all a lady had and forgot what they were called. The roosters are all red like the one in the pictures and all the hens are kind of a golden like the ones here. I would like to know what they are

Would some of you Nankin experts out there please give your opinion if these may be Nankins? Roosters have blue legs as do some of the hens but not all, shanks are not feathered.

Happy to see this thread! I'm really hoping to start my own little Nankin flock in Vermont, but I'm wondering who else has them in the northern climate & what special considerations for keeping them comfortable during the winter there are. Any breeder suggestions would also be much appreciated.

Hi GardenerGal,

I know this is 2 years later than your post here, but you're the closest Nankin person I've found yet. I'm in southern VT. If you happen to read this, I'd love to know if you're breeding, selling, & what lines your birds originate from. I'm trying to start my own little flock.

Cheers!

I would really like to find a copy of "The Nankin Bantam" by Mark Fields. I do not have a kindle and would like the actual book. If anyone has one they'd like to sell, or knows where I can get one, please let me know! Thank you!

Thank you Dave. I was hoping to get one for less than $40.00. Then again, I am in the process of selling some Nankin eggs :)

Are these bantams Nankin, please, any expert here?

It would make sense in this part of the world. They are descended from wild jungle stock, a flock of which took up residence in my friend's garden. He gave us a few to start a flock of our own. They are still semi-wild, roosting in our trees, foraging all day and still shy of humans. We supplement their wild feed with rice and other scraps and give them medicated water.

Apologies for the slightly out od focus pic.
