Yeah the site isn't working for me neither.

Here's the pic of the trio:

Well then, I think you should be the first to share your birds with us.

lol. I'll see what I can do. Now, there are some picts of Don and Mary Ann with their birds that have been in the Nankin Quarterlies thru the years. Being one of the original 4 founding members I have them all, but I don't have a working scanner anymore.

Hi..... Mary Ann sent my son a trio of Nankins so we can use her lines into ours.... we have one very exceptional pullet she is a little darker in color than her sisters and the judges consistently pick her BB at just about every show she has gone too..i might add the 5 nankins that we show against are all my sons but he did defeat some others at one show with this bird...we have trouble with getting 5 points in our single combs and the rooster that is the best has an extra spike but he is really a nice looking bird...we bred the 5 we have and the 12 offspring are all different shades with only the cockerels showing any conformity...the pullets are light and dark...i might add they all have very docile natures....the variations in the hen coloring must just be a natural color variation within the breed maybe the accepted color needs to be like a chestnut horse color which can go from a very light buff shade ,,to a deep red shade down to a dark chocolate brown,,,,if anyone would like chicks or eggs let us know as we want to promote these neat little birds and ours are very fertile....Chris:)

Add me to Spring's waiting list for chicks! I'm really looking to get some diverse bloodlines in my flock.

I don't think I've ever seen a Chocolate brown Nankin? The darkest I've seen would be a deep red-chestnut.

I think crazee was just refering to the color of horses. Chocolate would be totally wrong for the Nankin.

Your interpretation of chestnut as 'reddish-buff' is correct as I understand it. That has always been the understanding within the Nankin Club too.

I remember years ago (I still have the letter somewhere), Monty writing to me that is understanding of the color of the Nankin is that it was similar, if not nearly identical, to the Catalana.

HI...i was just referring to chestnut horses..we have a horse here who is so dark hes like a dark chocolate brownie....we will be hatching another batch in the new year to get ready for the Crossroads National joint meet want to be able to show a pile of nankins in the junior show... so there will be some birds available as well as hatching eggs anytime this spring just PM when you are ready...we breed silkies but the nankins are just so great to hatch out 11 out of 11 and all done on Day19...amazing and not a sickly one in the bunch...but as i said earlier there is certainly a range of buffie (is that a word) and red chestnut hues and the parents are fairly consistent in coloring...will make it fun to work on...Mary Anns group will be in the next hatch mixed with our handful...my son is planning on using a rooster for his showmanship bird next year he has him in training....lol...who would have thought you had to train a chicken...Chris

My Nankin chicks are outside under a lamp right now. I'm hope they do alright...The youngest are 3 weeks and the oldest are 5 weeks. The temp outside is 60*F.
I'm thinking with more room, they'll be less likely to peck each other out.

rio,

You got those roosting poles in there to make those little birds depressed or hopeful. lol.

You're going to scare the little buggers to death!
