Mary Ann is awesome! She got me started in Nankins. Well she gave me 30+ birds so I definitely call that a start. Now Saladin could you tell us why you prefer Fraciscreeks two hens over her other hens? I want to get in your "head" so to speak so I can understand what it is you see. Or better yet what you are looking at particularly. I dont want to put you on the spot by the way. This is my first year and so I have to learn as much as possible to get my breeding pens set up before spring arrives.
I'm going to take a guess on what he will say. 5885 has the best type, size and posture/stance and tail color. just a guess. She was not in show condition for the early shows. I expect her to do very well at the next couple of shows. Her clutch mate sister 5886 is nice but not as nice as 85. 134 has good type and tail color/marking but has faded in the past year. None of the pictures are very good, it is our first attempt to photograph chickens. I hope to get better pics up soon

The chick on the left of the first pic is not a [pure] Nankin. That is not normal for this breed and If she grows out most of it, she'll probably be left with lots of ticking.

Well she came from the same parents as the other one, we hatched them ourselves.

Yea it doesnt mean much but i have hatched out 2 dozen chicks and none looked like that one on the left either. here is a pic of some that i hatched.
I was wondering, if you look at my second pic I noticed that a portion of the chicks hatched had a black dot at the top of their head. Could this be like sex-linked chickens where one sex has the black mar and the other sex doesnt or what? I dont know the exact percentage that had the black mark but it was like 30+% of the hatch if I remember. Next hatch i will have to band the legs of all the chicks with a black mark and see for myself if none of you know for sure.
Mine had the black dot also, the one w/ the ticking had a bigger dot, the more buff had a very small one. Our only hen has a ticking problem. We are hoping to breed it out. This is a 4h project for my son. There is no doubt that these birds are nankin I guess I will post pics of the adults. We are working with what we have, and what we have are two great roosters and a hen with a ticking problem. Also, it prob. Doesn't mean anything but the buff is a strait comb and the other is a rose.
If they are for a 4-H youth i would be happy to send him a hen or two at no cost. They produced quality chicks for us this year. You can look at the web site and see if he likes any of the hens. www.rdrfarm.com
