Nankin Discussion Thread

Pics
Hello Again, Summer is fading and fall is just arould the corner, so maybe I will have more time to chat. I was able to give Camas Vally High School in Oregon 9 Nankin Roosters for thier FFA group. I hope to fallow the group and learn more about FFA. We are down to 3 roosters I want to keep and have one hen go broody and raise 4 chicks, two other of our young hens have layed a few time for us, we have 7 nice hens ready to lay next Spring life is goos in Roseburg, Oregon

That is awesome! Glad to hear it. I contacted both the local FFA and 4H chapters and was told, with a sneer no less, that neither had EVER heard of showing CHICKENS. So I'm STILL trying to figure out what to do with my army of roos...

Well, no false alarm this time. I have a broody hen sitting on 5 Nankin eggs. The should hatch just in time to maybe have some real feathers before the cold weather sets in.

I don't mind her sitting, but if she'd asked for my advice I'd have told her to wait till the first of February.... lol.

if any one is interested in r/c or s/c nankins i am picking up 50 or 60 from a breeder that has decided to get out of birds for a while. I plan on keeping 20 of them for her and would like to find homes for the rest. They are quality birds that have shown well.
Can you shipping some of them?
If you can, can i buy some of hens?

I Figured something was wrong with ideals birds. What is considered chestnut? Here are some pictures and tell me what you think. I also have more nankins than this but currently my pens are all messed up and the little buggers slip in an out of the kennels like snakes. I am in the process of changing my pens and when I do I will post better pictures of my flock. Tell me what you think of these birds.

In the middle picture, if you will notice, is a nankin that is lighter that I have been considering culling. I also have another one that is even lighter. It is harder to get a pic of the light one as I just let her free range.
Did your Nankins bantams roosters get along good?

I think the color in Nankins is an on going project, it is getting better but there are still some issues. What is chestnut? everyone seems to have a different interpretation. That said we still have a lot of issues with lacing, blothchey color and light or pale feather shafts. The color should be even.

I love my Nankins! Sweetest birds ever....here's some pics of a few of mine...
