Hi just a note to say my son Cody competed at the Nankin Nationals at Crossroads in Indiana and won Jr Best of Breed Nankin with his rooster Chick Chick Peep Peep...there were a dozen birds of excellent quality and our friends Lund Poultry went Jr Reserve of Breed with a lovely rosecomb rooster. and we were able to sell two pairs of breeding nankins to new homes and both new owners were excited to be involved in keeping the nankin breed preserved.

Hi I have 3 pairs of Nankins. 1 pair from Doug Smith, who got his from Don Cable, another from Doug but new bloodline he brought in this year, the 3rd from Richard in Northern CAL. Very nice pairs, I have pics but cant figure out how to post them. I have 5 chicks out of the second pair from dougs and 1 from the first. None from the 3rd from Richard as they arent old enough yet. I have acquired them all since March of this year. Saw them in a Mother Earth News magazine. I am excited to breed these beauties. Richard check back once I figure out pics and tell me what you think of the ones from you, or all of them for that matter is fine with me. Joy

Joy, in the first pair both birds seem light in color. How old are they? Did you use a flash when you took the pictures? In the second pair the hen has very nice type, seems light and the cocks neck/hackle area is light . The third pair has bad colored lobes and patchy or uneven color. the fouth pair The hen seems light almost laced and the cocks comb looks like he was injured. I would like to see them darker with solid red lobes. I would take the darkest hens with the best type and pair them with cocks #1 and #2 I have seem several nankins with bad colored lobes recently. We need to try and breed darker birds with good colored lobes
