Well - Happy Birthday!!

It will be a great day at the fair as it is not to get over 80 today!!

The Poultry tent is right next to the Lancaster Building (where Cabelas pushed out the small animals for advertising), which is the far East side of the fairgrounds and north of the big show arena.

Have fun!

Oh I wish I was closer - I'd be there!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
Mine is coming up real soon here....

Hey Aaron - are you the same Aaron with the BLRW? (I'm Cheryl <- birth name.... Chelly<- nick name!)

Yes - I am the same and will get some pics of a few BLRW this afternoon yet when doing chores. We had to clean out the brooder house today from all the rain we have had. It was a mess!!

How are you liking it out in the Sandhills of Nebraska!! Pretty unique place in the world.

Oh - Jill, did you make it out to the State Fair today?

Take care,

Sorry no, I fell in the garden yesterday and did a number on my shoulder. Boy its been a crazy week like that. Guess staying home didnt work either for my spiel of bad luck. lol

Anyhow am too darned sore, no one in the house heard me hollering there while I was laying in the grass and even my chickens didnt come over to check me out. Of course they ran out of the way as I came thundering down, good thing or I woulda had one squashed hen. Was reaching to get a tomato, stupid...then almost caught myself and made a wild leap, then didnt catch myself and the wild leap made me fall harder than if I had just fallen in the first place. Well nothing is broken, lots of soft grass, not quite soft enuff tho, boy am I sore...

Yes, please post pics, I am so anxious to see them! Did you get there, tell me all bout it!

I went to the fair. We hadn't planned on going but I went to Joann's to get some silk and we decided to go since we were in town.

There was some nice looking birds, there was a Jersey Giant that was huge. It was the first Giant we had seen, man they are some big guys.

There were so many that I wanted to run out of the building with and bring home.

We're enjoying it, except for the heat we've been getting. The heat is making everything take twice as long to get done. We found a HUGE mound of Field Ants today, and a big trail of them to a smaller mound. (at least they're not fire ants, I had to look them up online to figure out which they were)
Its kinda nice to be out of the rat race, and back to some peace and quiet.

How do you guys deal with cactus?

The place we moved into has a huge three acres, however there are TONS of weeds and TONS of little cactus.... I've been walking around with a bucket and digging them out, but just wondering if there is an easier way.

My horse will be here at the end of September, and I would hate for her to step on one!

Do any of you guys have horses? Because I need to find someplace to get feed for her..... perhaps someone has a tip - She's a spoiled Californian horse, who eats only Bermuda right now - Alfalfa makes her "hot" and "spicy" and I dont' like that.

Chelly,

I got some pics taken but i don't know how to get them on this forum. It looks as if I have to load them on my website and then link to them. I will e-mail them to you instead.

Not sure on how to get rid of those cactus - but your local co- op should know or a local feed store. Not sure what there is in Thedford for feed stores or where to look or ask about different grasses for your horse. I don't have horses and would not have any idea where to get different hay - besides asking other horse people.
