Necropsy Guidelines

Well, according to FedEx shipping, the carcass may have sat in a truck or warehouse (?) until about 12 hours after I dropped her off
I think you'll be okay.

Many states will email a shipping label for that,
UC Davis gives us the FedEx account number and then bill us for shipping.

Hope that they can still do the testing. Yes timing is important on sending the body. Taking the body personally is the best thing, but not practical for some. Then, overnight shipping via UPS or Fedex with the ice packs is preferred. Many states will email a shipping label for that, and that can decrease the cost if you pay for shipping on your own. I live about 3 hours from my state vet, and about an hour from Fedex, so I have yet to get a professional necropsy.

Thanks. Bagheera’s body had been chilled overnight in the fridge and I put ice packs in with her. I paid for priority (by 10:30am) FedEx overnight, but probably should have shipped her later in the day (so she could have stayed in the fridge longer and ice packs would be fresher). I didn’t take the heat wave into consideration, but just don’t know how I could have done that with my crazy work schedule right now.

I cant believe we are having a conversation about this...but interested.
@casportpony
Kathy can you be more specific? You call the lab and they email you a slip? Or you bring the billing account number to Fed ex and they print the mailing label and ship at no charge to the sender at the time? Then bill with an invoice later on (inconsistently Ive heard).
That doesnt seem very efficient for the lab. They have to become an invoicing organization. Maybe they are so interested in getting hens from all over NCAL to police the contagious diseases, its part of their overhead.
Yeah Michelle I thought about Bagheera today, Murphys law about the heat wave, exactly today for one day, but I think it wasnt nearly as hot as originally forecasted today. I'm sure it's fine Michelle. Lets think unicorn and baby kitten thoughts about her resting in peace in her box in the air conditioned San Jose warehouse! Guess you will know what they thought the state of the specimen was in a couple of days! Aww, Little lady....you know, she's lucky she has people that care about her.

Each time I have done it I call the lab, ask for FedEx account number, generate shipping label here, ship bird, then a few weeks later I get an invoice. On my submission form I make a note that I used their account number. If one cannot print their own label at home you can fill out the shipping label at FedEx.

Sorry Michelle. :hugs

Don't worry too much about how long the FedEx took.
I'm sure UC will be able to give you an answer.
