So i got a pair of mandarin ducks today and I had a big fright. My male is pinioned but my female is not. So she flew up and tried to get out of the encloser and almost found her way out.

I had a question, it is to dark now to fix it and I leave really early tomorow so it wont be fixed until tomorrow night. If she does get out and fly off is there any chance she would come back. Since the male cant escpape I was thinking she might, but just wanted to know just in case. I wish i could fix it tonight, but there is a huge storm going on out there and it is pitch black. PLEASE HELP!

Even if she would come back, if she gets out she may get injured or attacked since she's never been out on her own and it being night time. Is there any way you could go out there with a flash light and temp fix it till' tomorrow?

Can you clip one of her wings to keep her from flying out? I have never done it but it sounds pretty easy, just cut the flight feathers on one side. I would think that if she does get out she would stay close to her mate but you never know.

Well if she does get out, my big tom cat might case her causing her to fly off. I fixed it as best as I could for now but it still doesnt look to good. I am so scared that she will get out and get hurt. Please let her stay in there.

SHe is very flighty right now, I hope it changes. I am hoping her flightyness is due to a new home and she is just scared. And I was trying to catch her to clip her wings when she almost got out. So i left it till tomorrow.

I just went out to put a tarp over it and she is GONE!!!! I searched everywhere and she wasnt there. I thought for sure since it was dark and raining that she wouldnt fly off.

Don't worry, they can survive a storm for one night. If there is a storm, it will actually boost its chance for survival. Predators don't like to hunt when the weather is bad. Also, its more likely to come home if the weather is bad.
