Need advice about goat worming

Goats need company... doesn't necessarily need to be another goat... a lamb or two is great company for a goat!

The other poster than commented on her escape artist.. I'm not sure if I am lucky but mine did great with welded wire 4 feet up with two strands of barb at the top... he and the lambs would shove their heads through teh fence to eat the grass (grass is always greener!) and the goat loved to eat the bark off the fence posts and could get himnself into so very acrobatic stances

but he was also well entertained by his lamb buddies and I have a goat jungle gym.

I loved my guy.

I have had 3 large boer nannies, pregnant and all that could jump a 6 foot no climb fence. You notice I said HAD,

Flat footed, it was the strangest thing I ever saw. They just jumped liked deer...graceful.

I would take him to the vet but I have a very larg bill i'm paying off from when my beloved dog got sick and I had to have her put down. They had her all weekend and ran all kinds of teste and xrays and an ultra sound. She was just old and weak and had tumors in her belly. So I can't take anything to the vet till that is paid off. So i'm on my own on this.

Today he is no better. He isn'st weak and he eats and drinks. If it wasn't for the fack that I saw the worms in his poop I would think he was just full and fine. HIs belly is very larg today and has tape worms coming out his...........well you know where. We have made arrangements for him to stay in one side of the coop and were getting him a buddy tomorrow. He is still on the chain for now. At the moment he is locked in the dog house where he is safe. Here is a pic of him. I couldn't get any closer because he will run to the dog house. YOu can see even from this distance his belly is bloated.

Would it be ok if I gave him some more of the pellets tonight? Maybe somebody can guess his weight by looking at him.

Use Valbezen, Safeguard or Panacure to get rid of tape worms.
Ivomec or Ivermectin 1cc per 30 pounds no tapeworms
Cydectin 1 cc per 20 pounds no tapeworms
If you are not sure of weight go up rather than down.
Usually goats get 2 to 3 x the dosage cattle do.
This is all given orally.

You can give him a big dose 5 cc's or so 2x a day of regular Geritol to help him.
He will keep getting worms if he eats off the ground, I know that sounds silly because goats eat everything, but they are more apt to get parasites if they eat gress, weeds that are shorter than their knees. I am not talking about their grain or hay.
After you dose him, check his eyelids and gums if they are white he still has worms. When they are pink they are gone. You may have to use 2 different wormers.
But goats are so immune to womer meds that is is hard to get rid of sometimes. But you can do it.

Safeguard (liquid) should be given at 1cc per 10 pounds. He looks small enough that you could bring out your bathroom scale, hold him and get a weight with both of you. Then weigh yourself and subtract. Also as far as Ivomec, you want the cattle 1% injectible and you can give it orally.

OMG, Thats how he got them i'm sure. When I clean out from under the quail pens and out of the chicken coops I always dump the waste down the hill. The rodents are fat around here but There is really no where else to get rid of it at. He can reach these spots. DH wanted a few goats to clean out the weeds from along the property as you can see. we have woods directly behind us and his house is just around the corner behind the trailer.

So the pellets I got are no good? What does the Geritol do? I"m sorry if I sound like an idiot but I guess I am when it comes to goats. DH got him but it's left up to me to learn about them so they can be cared for.

Just to clarify:
The Ivomec or Ivermectin or Cydectin is for if they don't have tape worms. I'll get out the scale tomorrow when I have help with him. I'm going to move the chickens around so he can go in the coop first thing in the morning. I'll weigh him when we move him.

What kind or breed does he look like. I really have no idea. I know, sad isn't it?

Be very careful he doesn't get into any chicken feed, it can cause a range of serious illnesses including bloat and goat polio.

I'm sure he has done just that. Maybe thats why he's so bloated. What do I do for that? I really wish DH let me get educated before he bought a goat. Poor fella. So I have to clean out the chicken feed out of the coop floor before I put him in there. I"m glad you told me that. I guess I need to get dressed all warm and go out and get to work so he can have a safer place to live tomorrow.

Sorry, I just don't want you to have any more goat illnesses to deal with from the get-go!
