Need advice on dog - chicken relationship

My rat terriers never cared about the chickens, and focus their hunting instincts on small vermin. Huskies on the other hand are known to be killers of all smaller animals, so that breed probably never will leave the chickens alone.

I have a 2.5 yr old Great Dane and a 5.5 yr old Saint Bernard. The Saint seems to not even notice the chickens and they share our backyard. The Dane loves to chase them!! I started walking him around the yard holding his collar and telling him to leave it (the chickens) he picked it up fast. Now I supervise and he does great! It can be done!

Thanks for the advice guys! I am going to heighten my fence so that my guys and gals don’t get to “decide” when to free range. When I am there to supervise, I will let them range the yard and work on correcting my dogs behavior. She is only around 2 years old (rescued so no exact d.o.b.), so maybe she will outgrow her puppy instincts of roughhousing with my chicks!
