Need advice on gosling

I went ahead and gave her some regular (NOT extra strength) niacin water via the syringe this morning. I saw her drink a couple more times and eat a little bit after that. She is now sleeping happily (upright) next to Lucky, my duckling. I will definitely be checking on her regularly throughout the day. Hopefully, this niacin water is the trick to getting her healthy!

Poultry drench (many feed stores carry it) is a huge boost to a goose or duck with an illness or injury. Dosing instructions are right on the bottle. We keep it, poly vi sol (no iron) and save a chick on hand for anyone looking "off" or injured. Sorry she isn't getting better for you.
The Vi-Tal (and another similar vitamin supplement) is the only thing that I found that is for poultry that Orscheln's (my only local feed store) carries. What is the Poly-vi-sol and save a chick? Where do you get them?

I know you have this trip planned but is your friend going to be dedicated to taken care of Lucy the way she needs to be taken care of? Sounds like she is going to need constant attention right now or you may lose her. Like Celtic said she needs something in the vitamin department, are you still giving the ViTal? don't stop and yes try giving her a little more of the niacin water but be very careful giving into the mouth that she doesn't aspirate it into her lungs.
I will be meeting my sister at my parents' house. My parents are home ALMOST 24/7. I have decided to take my Littles (Lucy and my duckling, Lucky) with me on my trip and leave them at my parents' house. My parents have agreed to watch her while I can't, and they are around a lot more often than my friend, so I think Lucy would be better off with them.

I have been continuing to give her the Brewer's Yeast and the Vi-Tal. I think she has gotten a little better this morning after I force fed her some water. I picked some dandelion greens for them and put the greens in their water. I think she ate a few and I've seen her eating the food (with the brewer's yeast on top) as well. When I got up and checked on her this morning, I was having to set her back up every couple of minutes. I haven't had to do that for the last couple of hours, so I think she's improving at least a little. I wonder if she didn't get turned over sometime during the night and couldn't get back up and, therefore, couldn't get to the water/food where the niacin supplements were and, therefore, got worse and worse 'till I set her upright this morning and helped her to some niacin water. Does that sound like a valid theory?

I am so tired of having to worry about her and wish she would just get better! I was pretty upset this morning when I found her on her side and when I realized she had gotten so much worse over night. I REALLY hope this niacin water (with the Vi-Tal in it) and the Brewer's Yeast on the food will be enough to help her get better. My parents will have to watch her exclusively Wednesday evening through Friday evening. I'm hoping to see some drastic improvement when I get back to my parents' house Friday evening.

I'm glad it has worked out for you to take Lucy and Lucky with you,I'm sure she has a much better chance having someone with her 24/7. I wish we could all say that with everything you are doing that your going to wake up one morning and she will be well. We all hope so, and she probably will be, but you just have to keep up with all your doing till either she is 100% or you feel you have done all you can. Since she is eating and gaining weight and growing then we can pretty much rule out Failure to Thrive, so hopefully it is niacin deff and all that will change by the time you see her on Friday. She'll be running around so happy to see her mama.

I thought I'd add a couple pictures of Lucy (the gossling, on left) and Lucky (the duckling, on right). I've had them two weeks today and am guessing the Lucy is approximately 3 weeks old and Lucky is approximately 4 weeks old. Do you think my estimations are correct?

Lucy just LOVES to lay with her head/neck across Lucky's back. Silly birds! I wonder if they'll still lay like this when they're grown....

Precious pics, and I have a goose that loves his mama duck so I would think that this is going to be an on going bond. unless both are males and you add females into the mix, but if it's just the 2 of them they will probably be pals for life.

I already have 6 ducks (1 drake, 5 ducks) that are grown. 4 of them are over a year old, 2 of them (including the drake) are about 3 1/2 months old.

I didn't know that you had other ducks too, well since they are young hopefully they will continue to be close. I have 3 drakes one being only 9 weeks old but they each have their favorite girls so if you can keep the ratio good they may stay buddies. Even my baby drake has a favorite girls she is only 5 weeks old.

I am thrilled to report that Lucy is doing WAY better this morning than she was yesterday morning. I was so worried about her that I got up multiple times during the night to check on her. She was upright and happy every time I checked on her. She was even making "happy goose" noises this morning! I am a little nervous about travelling with her, but I plan to keep her and Lucky in a box on my lap the whole trip. I plan to leave their food in the box with them and plan to bring a lidded container of niacin water so I can offer it to them regularly through the trip (and keep it lidded the rest of the time so neither me nor the box end up soaked).
