Today someone brought me a peacock that is about 3 months old. It can’t stand or walk and never has since birth. It seems pretty healthy otherwise. I know nothing about them, I have emailed my vet but wanted to check here to see if there’s any recommendations or if y’all have seen this before. The legs stay tucked underneath and I’m assuming they move a little because she scoots around. The man said it was born that way and he was going to shoot it, so I wanted to give it a chance. Please help! I am attaching pictures.

Is it really a life if you're immobile? Birds like these also tend to cull themselves because they don't handle the winters as well as their counterparts.
I got the bird today and am unsure of what is actually wrong with it. I would never want to keep something in pain or poor quality of life. I also will give anything every opportunity there is to have a good life. I pray I don’t have to have her put down, but I won’t let her suffer either. I’m in SC not really cold here yet, so I don’t think that is affecting her. Thank you for responding.

Thank you for replying. When researching earlier I did read about slipped tendons but wasn’t sure. I am waiting for my vet to message me if that is what is wrong with her, I’m hopeful that it’s something surgery could correct. If not I will sadly have my vet put her down. Thanks again.

You are welcome and sorry to say that there is no fixing this bird. Had the breeder known how to fix the problem it would have had to be done within the first couple of days. Looking at the bent hocks and twisted toes, the extreme swelling of the hocks and the thick scabs from scooting on the ground I feel really sorry for it. I find it very hard to put down a bird but we have to do it from time to time. It is part of the commitment when you take on an animal.

Thank you again for taking time to message me. It’s a hard life when you wanna save the world. Lol she was kept in extremely bad conditions, my vet is going to look at her on Tuesday and if there’s nothing that can be done then we will have him put her to sleep. I’m hopeful and praying. I will keep the thread updated.
