Need experienced BYC in MA

Thank you everyone. I am going to insulate for peace of mind then use a heat lamp if need be. I know I will be out there everyday for small cleanings and monthly for a major cleaning. That way I don't have to worry about respitory problems, want to keep the girls happy and healthy. Thanks again, I am so happy I found this website!

I'm just outside Worcester. My coop is a converted section in an existing shed, so there will be no insulation. I'm going to play it by ear and try to get by without a heat lamp if I can. I've got Buff Orpingtons, which are supposed to be very winter hardy. Before last winter I probably would have considered a heat lamp, but with the ice storm and no power for 8 days, I would have had frozen chickens! I think its better (if they are winter hardy breeds) to give them a shot at adapting as nature intended.

Wow, lots of people from the Cape, I'm just on the other side of the bridge in Plymouth. I'd highly recommend insulating. It keeps them warmer in the winters and cooler in the summers. I used the thick foam insulation as opposed to the fiberglass as it's safer and more dense.
