Okay, so as of this moring two have hatched, 1 Barnevleder and 1 Buff Orphington. I have 2 Barnevelders and 1 Buff that have zipped and should be out soon and 4 more Barnevelders that have piped. Here is a picture of the first two
Checked my broody because I went to give everyone else a treat, and...... I HAVE A PIP!!!!!!!!
The baby is kicking and peeping and momma hen had her head tucked in her wing "talking" to it, that is, until I bothered her with a picture (or 2, or 5...) so I'm hoping I'll have 4 babies in the morning!
The chickie that pipped last night has started to zip and is very lively and LOUD under broody momma. I haven't seen any progress on the other 3 eggs yet, but this one is a day early still. Question.... does anyone know what will happen with the egg shells? Will the broody eat them or kick them out of the nest or what? I don't know what to expect after they hatch.
Edited to add: I have a baby chick!!! he/she looks good, very active, and momma
As of this morning I have 3 Barnevelders, 3 Buff Orphs, and 1 Lav Orph out of their eggs. I can hear chirping from the eggs, so out of the eggs left to hatch I have 11 Barnevelders, 1 Buff, and 1 Lav, none of this have piped yet, but I can hear them chirping
As for the egg shells under a broody mom, not sure, but I would guess she knows what to do with them. Did you post that question on the main group?
