Need help breeding meat quails

I have 2 cages of Italian and have never heard that a double dose of the gold gene is lethal and never had a problem with losing a lot of chicks. I hatch 120 eggs a month of standard brown, jumbo, Tibetan, Italian and A&M. Dont have a problem with any of them having a 25% fatality rate. I may lose a hand full in each batch but thats to be expected when raising quail.

Double dose is fatal in manchurian.... not italian... my error...

If anyone else is interested in this thread... the little dude is 185 grams at 5 weeks. I think I will keep him as a breeder and considering he is a meaty, Italian stud, name him Stallone.

220 grams at 6 weeks. Next week will probably be the last weigh-in. They will probably all go to bird heaven.

Nope. 220 was week 5. This is week 6. 239 grams. After eating 150 grams of feed for the week, the bird put on under 20 grams. Growth has slowed to where the food/meat trades off poorly. It's dinner time!
