Need help finding breed of dog that is right for my family UPDATE #43

Okay, this is too funny not to share. I was browsing the ads on Craigslist for dogs looking for homes and came across this one:
http://wichita.craigslist.org/pet/2417314556.html
To save you having to open the link, the text of the ad is:
female/spayed snauzer mix(about 50 pounds) LOVE kids and tolerate cats. BAD WITH POULTRY. Very loving and used to being outside. Very vocal guard dog but not agressive and doesnt really bark otherwise.

Don't have to wonder why they're re-homing, do we? At least it saved me the trouble of asking the question....

You should look into the labradoodles. I have a 3 year old and he is possibly the best dog I've ever owned. He is incredibly kind, and adores my kids and other animals. I could probably take him to the groomer more often

but I usually just take the horse clippers to him and keep his hair short.

Mine is 3/4 standard poodle, 1/4 lab. He was the most adorable puppy ever. He has since grown into... well..... we love him anyway

Remember that anything with Poodle needs alot of grooming and all Doodles are not shedfree, hypoallergenic or anything else their breeders (ha) claim as selling points of these dogs. There is no standard for this mix...could be more Poodle, could be whatever else. As a groomer of over 15 years, I'm over the hype. They can be skiddish, usually have wacko conformation with health issues.

Have you thought about a Cattle Dog? They are medium sized, short thick coat, good with kids, super smart and easily trained, extremely loyal to their family. I would include a good breeder as you want a healthy pet to enjoy for years.

Sheep dogs dont shed either..so these dogs will be pretty shed free..

Don't look at it as a mixed breed look at it as a GLAMOUR breed.

I still think they are over priced and should be max of 100-200 dollars.

x2 Border Collie. As long as they have enough room to run around and you have enough time to keep them busy! I have one and she is the best dog I've EVER had. She knows about 14 commands, puts her toys away in the box, herds the chickens into there coop when I tell her, she has caught 7 predators this year, 4 opposums 3 skunks, theres really not alot she can't help with. They are a little work in there teenage years but after that they are the best dog you will EVER have. I swear it.

Cool story: My father lost his wedding ring once and he was in the kitchen in the dark. He hears a clang sound at the bottom of his feet. He turns the light on and Eva (my border collie) had dropped the ring infront of him. TRUE STORY, I couldn't even believe it!!!

Oh and I've trained her to catch frisbees in the air to boot!
