Need help finding DE for fly control

The DE I found is totally Safe and Food grade and also came with a list of uses including use by humans and I decided to try it and have had no ill effects! I have been taking about 2 tablespoons a day mixed in juice! I have noticed that maybe the joints dont hurt as much as they used to but have only been on it for 2 weeks! The purpose of the feeding to chickens and dusting the run is to kill the larve that the flys come from therefore ending the cycle and it is also recomended as a wormer! It claims it is totally safe for all warm blooded animals.

I'm going to try dusting my garden with it next year and see if it really works on that too!??

I gave some to a friend that had ants on her counter and she sprinkled some on the counter and low and behold ants gone away

DE is nothing but a drying agent. It's great for sprinkling in a coop or damp ground to help dry things out. DE is useless after it's wet, until it dries. It may be a preventative for lice and mites, but not a treatment for an infestation. DE will not kill worms. DE is about 90% pure silica, non toxic and the most common mineral in the earth's crust. The hazard from DE comes from breathing the crystals which are severely irritating to the lungs. There are no ill effects from mixing it in food or liquids, that's because it doesnt do anything but pass through your system and excreted. The sellers claims are just that...claims, which are misleading buyers for a sale. A prime example is that they claim DE kills worms, yet claim it wont harm earthworms.

All I am saying is to each their Own and I have witnessed some benefit frome the product around the coop! I have checked out in detail what it is made from and will continue to experiment with it as Most chemicals have BAD effects on the enviroment and the Human body, of which I only have one and want to stay safe. If someone wants to use and believes in it! If not don't try it

Agreed. It does help with flies as they are attracted to damp manure; dry it out and they won't lay as many eggs, and the ones that hatch will mostly dry out and die while still maggots. I prefer Sweet PDZ as it also has many trace minerals, is a better dessicant and is capable of chemically altering ammonia. It also does not make outrageous claims with lots of annecdotal, but no scientific research to back up the claims.

BTW, water is a chemical.

I had my local Southern States order me food grade DE/ I got about 5lbs. I recall it being cheaper than mail order, it was really inexpensive whatever it was and I have only used a small amount. A little goes a long way. I mix it into the shavings in the coop and just mix all the poo etc in there. It's totally dry and bug free. I will clean it out for the spring and because I got chicks going in there when they are a little bigger but it just solves the whole problem.

DE sucks..its never ever helped with any bugs around my house...nope..
I dusted ant mounds AND the ants themselves with it.... used a whole dam bag on my yard...
All the ants did was keep trucking along and flip me the bird.... didnt faze them at all!

I think that it is more of a drying agent type of thing and will affect maggots etc. a lot more than critters like ants. Ants are pretty evil and I haven't found anything "natural" that works worth a darn. We have terrible ants and if anyone knows anything to do about them, please share. I did find DE keeps the coop dry and I haven't had to clean it all winter, just mix it up.
