You recognized him as a cockerel? The shoulder feathering, dark red but not exactly pointed, reminded me of Audrey. It looked completely different to Audrey.... the tail was more defined for one... the feathers were different and the comb and wattles were different.... I’ll get a video of Audrey today... she won’t hold still for photos and is proving difficult to catch since we had that damn eagle the other day......
And that’s the point I’m taking and making..... what’s that age old saying “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” doesn’t this also a apply to chickens?I think the point of the other post is that it's easy to mistake a slow maturing cockerel for a pullet, especially if you're not looking hard enough or at the right things. The OP of the other thread posted photos of a bird that did have smaller comb and wattles than you would expect for a cockerel of that age but it had visible pointy saddle feathers, so it was no surprise to me that is was indeed a cockerel
He just “looked different“ it will make more sense when I get this video up.... Audrey is almost completely through molt and looks sooooo different now....You recognized him as a cockerel? The shoulder feathering, dark red but not exactly pointed, reminded me of Audrey.
That's exactly how you judge a chicken. By its feathers. And that’s the point I’m taking and making..... what’s that age old saying “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” doesn’t this also a apply to chickens?“don’t judge a chicken by it’s feathers“

But not all chickens who have “male feathers“ are males and not all chickens. Who have “female feathers“ are females.... I have a chicken who looks like a girl but I sware it’s a boy... by the way it acts around the hens including Audrey...That's exactly how you judge a chicken. By its feathers.
Sigh, let's not waste our time, and just wait for the roo to crow.
That is extremely rare. Unless you see Aubrey laying an egg then he’s a boy.But not all chickens who have “male feathers“ are males and not all chickens. Who have “female feathers“ are females.... Nah I didn’t end up getting it... I got the 2 silkie chicks instead lol... my silkie girl lost her sister a little while back to an attack so she was quite depressed and would just hide all the time... since I got the chicks for her to “care” for she’s back to foraging the yard with the rest of the flock and even puts herself to bed with “her babies” she’s basically back on track for training again for the poultry shows.... I just got to find one now that is close to home so she doesn’t get too stressed with long travel...Audrey is a cockerel. Male specific feathers were coming in nicely in the last photos. He also just looks course like a male. I'll bet his new feathers look amazing. He's come so far since day one.
Did you get the Pekin you posted pics of? (Best breed ever)
I'm sorry about the Eagle. Poor things. I'd be terrified too.
