My daughter decided to do a chicken project this year for fair and we do not what type of chickens these are and if they are a recognized breed, please. New to chickens.

Personal experience they cannot be sexed at hatch.They are red sex link hens (hybrids, so not a pure breed), which are sold under a number of different (brand) names like Red Stars, ISA Browns, Cinnamon Queens etc. The only way to know which "brand" they are is by finding out where they came from. The most accurate way to describe them without knowing a brand name is to call them Red Sex Links.... basically because they are a cross between a white (silver based) hen and a red rooster and the orangey red colour is passed to the female chicks from the male, whereas the male chicks of this cross are predominantly white, therefore the chicks they can be accurately sexed at hatch because their colour is "sex linked".
