One of my son's 4h project saxony's has what I would call weepy eyes or a cold in its eyes or what could it be, and what can we do to treat it? The duck was born on March 9th. The other ducks don't have it and also his/her quack is raspy. It has some gunk in its nostils that I cleaned out today. I feel like such a bad duck mommy..

I am guessing you might have a boy if the sound is raspy that it is making. I would give him a good warm bath letting him clean out his nostrils really good and eyes. I have an antibiotic eye cream that I have put around my females eyes (after they have been attacked too much by the males) sometimes they get foamy. After the water cleaning and 1 treatment of antibiotics they are good as new! Keep listening to the sounds and make sure he is has water deep enough to clean his nostrils frequently!

Ditto Baylor. If you don't have antibiotic eye drops yet, consider a very dilute cool chamomile tea for him to dip his whole head into. It is a gentle cleansing herb from what I read and a few of us have used it to help ducks wash off their heads and it seems helpful. But just until you can get some antibiotic drops.

Poor duckie. Things happen. Just keep tabs on the duck, and please let us know how things are going.

where and what kind of eye antibiotics do I need? Is the chamelle tea the only herbal stuff I could use?

I got mine from the vet. Sadly my smallest female must have been brutally attacked by her male counterparts today and her eye is much worse than yours

I gave her a bath and put in the antibiotics. I also gave her some nutri drench water to hopefully help out. She looks pitiful. It was so bad at first I couldnt see that she had an eyeball. I thought they plucked it out - fortunately after the bath I could see it but she looks horrid. She is separated now in a cage by herself. Some of my males might be living it out on the farm with their siblings if they keep this up - It really is a farm of my friends so not the farm in the sky!

Raspy quack sounds like your duck is actually a drake. Drakes sound like ratchets. Ducks quack.

A little weeping around the eye doesn't mean much, but I don't like the look of that droopy eyelid. Ducks need to be able to get their heads under water to wash their eyes and nostrils. several times a day. If they can't they will develop eye problems and respiratory problems.

I use neosporin for eyes, on my vet's recommendation. Buy a brand new tube so it is sterile. Never touch the tube. Squeeze the Neosporin into the eye and then twist the tube to break it off. The duck will spread it by blinking. Don't rub.

So how is your saxony doing now? My girl who looked 100 times worse than yours yesterday looks brand new today! So I am hoping with the antibiotics yours is doing better as well!
