Hey! I've got a new B/S baby silkie!
I'm home from work sick today.
Little peeps woke me from my unconscious
state in my lounge chair. I was really surprised,
because I wasn't expecting any new arrivals until
tomorrow. I didn't even know it had pipped!
I can see that several more of the eggs have
external pips on them now. I LOVE HATCH DAY!

Don't worry casselarabie. These things just have
a way of working out. a year ago I was hatching
my first eggs. I didn't know you were supposed to
take out the egg turner at the end. I walked by
and there was a little baby Indian runner duck
sitting on the yellow bar!

I just hatched 10 and have another 16 in the incubator. Hatching my own eggs so who knows what they will be. I happen to have Buff Orphingtons, Black Astrolaup, Barred Rock, Black Sex Link, Rhode Island Red, Auracauna, Brahma, & Cochin hens, and my roos are a mixture. Kind of like those boxed chocolates. . . never know what you're gonna get.

Loosing my incubator tho, it's going back to my cousin :-( Had it for over a year and now I'm sad.

Look!!!

Moo-Shu is doing great! He has encouraged Ming-Ming to pip externally! :-D Before Ming-Ming pipped I checked Egg #3 and was very surprised that he is still growing! I wasn't able to catch a peek of him moving since I wanted to get him back in fast. But he has grown since lock down started about 2 days ago. I think he will be end up being right on due time (the 28th).

We almost had a mishap with #3 about a week ago. He slipped out of my hand during candling and I was luckily able to catch him mid-air so he didn't hit the ground. I think during all the commotion is when he acquired a small crack on the narrow end of his shell. Not all the way through just a small thin crack of the shell itself. Nothing came out of it and he's still growing. I'm a bit nervous about hatch time with him. I'll will be by his side from start to finish. I don't want him to blow out the bottom of his shell while zipping. If he does, I'll be there to help him out.

I hope everyone else is having successful hatches and plenty of patients!

I have been wanting geese but everybody tells me that they are mean.My Aunt tells me though that they are great to have around and eat lots of bugs.Which is true? I would love to hatch some geese

If you're afraid the geese will be mean just go with a nice, calm, sweet goose. Try American (buff, lav, or blue), Pilgrim, or Cotton Patch. I mean, they aren't snugglebunnies (get a dog if that's what you need

) but it's so easy to raise them up right! No matter the goose, tho, you'll need to make sure you don't hand feed when they're babies (they'll grow up with an unwanted attachment), that you treat them nicely so they don't learn to fear you but let them know that you're the 'Head Goose In Charge". You want them to have a healthy respect for you but not be afraid of you.

I have American Lavender-ice from Holderread. They're great! They protect the ducks and eat the weeds from the garden. They more vegetarians than bug hunters... your ducks will eat up the bugs for you. I chat with mine ("bup bup BUP bup") and they chat back. We have a very good relationship. But when they hiss at me I have to remind them I'm in charge. I just spread my arms and walk toward them and they turn around and walk away... they would never even THINK about pinching me even if they were they type. They're just used to being in charge out in the barnyard so I have to give them a gentle reminder now and then

Get some geese, if they keep strangers out of your yard they're just doing their job - LOL!
