on the surprise chickie!!

of the 14 Buff and partridge I got 7 BEAUTIFUL Buff silkies

Of the 18 blacks and blues, only 4 plus one is deformed and will not make it.

Lots of yellow yoked unformed eggs - does this mean not fertile, or shipping damage maybe ??

hmm, nothing there at all? Could be either..non fertile..or shipping handling. Pretty tough on eggs.

Congats on what you do have!

Thanks.
the Buffs are BEAUTIFUL! (Sassy Silkies)

My second hatch.

Have a dozen Catdance whites in now, so hope odds are better on them.
Installed a fan in incubator and think that is going to really help.
Made a big difference with temperature fluctuation already.
Have to beef up the water supply to keep humidy up though!

Guess the blacks were a mistake.
From pretty good birds though, so paid a lot.

All hatched in same incubator, so have to believe it was the eggs or shipping.

Never would have guessed....

I opened the incubator to take the two barnevelder chicks out. First thing I did was take the shelf out that had the eggs on it so I could reach the two chicks. I could have sworn I heard chirping from the eggs! So I investigated and sure enough the last barnevelder eggs had pipped and made an attempt to zip, but on the bottom side of the egg. I made the decision to help immediately since I lost one already under the same circumstance. It was full of energy and looks like it is doing great! What is extra wild is that today is day 23 and I had given up on them so I didn't add water last night....the humidity has been less than 60% all last night and all morning....yet no shrink wrap.

I am hoping this one is a hen because I think the other two I have are roos.

This hatch turned out better than I thought it was going to.

Wow, surprises like that don't hurt! Happy that you got some Barnevelders. When they get older, you will have to post pictures. There must be a site for them somewhere on here. My little one, is staying pretty small..so hoping it is a hen also. Almost two months and is smaller than the other two month olds.

Here's a picture of what I hatched out yesterday. Barnyard mixes, always the healthiest and easy to hatch. Going back to the friend that gave me the eggs..except for two I picked out to watch for myself.
