Need some help fast please

We feed Oat hay to the goats and the geese LOVE it. Timothy pellets are a better choice of pellet, but truthfully good hay is better.

lightening your boys are ganders (drakes are your male ducks).

90% of a gooses diet should be pasture, different breeds then also require different amounts of grain to maintain good body weight. Our juvenile dewlaps eat double the mazuri our sebastopols of the same age eat.

Everyone has their own feeding routine, ours is on our website. Our base feed is Mazuri for the waterfowl with various grains top dressed.

Sorry about the terminology mishap, Celtic!!

I'm still new to the idea of geese. I'll get it right, I promise.

We have plenty of grass hay, since we just bought the winter's bales for the horses. After last year's drought, some of our pastures are not in the best shape. I am working hard to improve them, and will be planting annual rye grass in a few weeks. In the spring I will seed Bermuda grass again, as it is tough and withstands drought better than some other grasses. I was just trying to get an idea of some alternatives to grass, and hay works fine. Do they like the grass cuttings from your yard? We have a HUGE yard that we keep mowed. I usually throw it over the fence for the horses, but I'd give some to the geese if they'd like it, too. Nice and green and juicy!!

I'll check out your website, Celtic, to get a good idea of how much to feed my GANDERS. I have also ordered the Holderread goose book, which I expect to be every bit as good as his duck book, which I have read cover to cover several times. I do research and analysis for a living, so I like to be sure I understand anything new as well as possible. Thus, all the questions.

Thank all of you for your help. The people on this site are just amazing!!

No worries Donna, BYC is for learning, so you learned the goose terms. Oh and your question about MrsMagoo yesterday. She is likely without power right now, so might be a few days.

Ok I thought I would go ahead and post what's happen so far. I have called two vets one wants $60 for a fecal test and $75 for a full check up and they where not willing to talk over the phone about the gander and what could be wrong, the other vet wants $30 for a fecal test and $47 for a full check up and did not talk over the phone about it too and both vets recommend I take him in for a check up. So I'm going to call today and set up an apointement on Friday. If you all want I can post what the vet say and give updates on how he is doing.

Thanks
Poultry

Well got home from the vets office, as soon as I took him into the room she weighed him at 10 pounds, then she asked a few questions and then started feeling around on him and she said she felt a "large hard mass "orange sized" in abdomen-probably a tumor". So now I don't know what to do she said I can go ahed and have some x-rays done but Thoes are $150 each. I don't know what to do

Very sorry to hear the bad news. 10lbs for an adult is very underweight. It should be $100 for set up and 1st screen, then each additional screen is $50. What is prognosis and treatment options?

Sorry to hear about your gander's health issues, Poultry09. I have never had an issue like this show up with my geese before, but I hope your gander's problem is not too serious and I will keep him in my prayers.

Thanks everyone

Iain the vet did not say anything about treatment she said she could do x-rays but she said she does not know much about birds, So I dont think I could see spending $150 on xrays and have the vet tell me she is not sure what it actualy is and still be half way in the dark with what is wrong with him.
