After a failed attempt last night at our city council meeting trying to get the chicken ordinances changed, they tabled the issue because they didn't want to pay the city attorney to change the ordinance if the Texas Bill prohibiting municipalities from banning chickens passes. Anyways I have been going through the ordinances and have yet to see where it bans ducks or geese. The link is below. I have searched several words, and have yet to find where they are banned in the city limits or considered livestock. Would anybody be willing to help me out. Can we keep ducks and geese? Is chickens the only poultry banned?? Thanks!

Whoo...having a hard time locating the specific poultry ordinance on that site... Can you find the page that says chickens are banned for us?

Usually, "poultry" is a definitive term..it includes chickens, ducks, turkeys etc... If chickens are banned, most likely ducks are too. Most towns gave specific guidelines and definitions of specific classes of animals allowed or not... But I can't find it.. I did see something about pigs though :D

Hmmmm that's...vague lol :p

Well, turkeys and ducks are usually considered livestock, because their main use is for production, ie food.

So I would say that means no turkeys or ducks :(

But it wouldn't hurt to pen a letter or a formal request for a few "pet" ducks.. Most likely reason for denial of them though would be pathogens and waste management. Also a good idea would be to have your neighbors sign some sort of "allowance" if there's dispute on the locals allowing them for pets. As long as the neighbors are OK with it, it would give your petition more weight, since that's usually where problems stem from; not all people like birds hanging around ;)

*oh but have you tried obtaining a permit already and it got denied?
