What does it take to make a lavender muscovy? I have a blue or blue fawn female and a chocolate male? She gives me the most beautiful babies.

What I have seen its a receive and you need blue and chocolate in the genetic make up of the bird you are breeding to. Lavender is neither blue, nor chocolate. Then again, I have also heard people call it the same as "self" blue. Self not meaning solid colored but Dominate for the blue gene. Then ... I have also seen different genetic designations for self blue (dominant blue) and Lavender.. and Lilac.. ( Lavender and lilac being the same according to that paper, that also stated lilac was blue/fawn.

All confusion aside, we do know for a fact its receive. We do know you can't create it, you have to have it.
I just got my first Lavender drake and plan to do some test mating's this spring to help me personally clarify things in my own brain about what I have read. I will be happy to post what the results are if you like.

Calls are easy and they are pretty set in their colors. There are gobs of papers written on the normal duck (wild mallard) colors.

lavendar is a recessive gene so you need both parents to be carrying the gene. doesnt matter what colour they are. if you have a blue duck plit for lavendar into a black drake split for lavendar a percentage of the offspring will be lavendar. it can get confusing when you have multiple colours at the same time though, for example light lavendar which is blue and lav at the same time. so apparently its best not to mix your blues with your lavs to avoid confusion. lavs into lavs or lavs into blacks split for lavs is meant to be best.
