Negative Chicken Comments

My first pet was a rat! "Fellowie" was her name, and I got her when I was two years old, she lived until I was 5 when she developed a tumor and had to be put to sleep, but she was like a puppy dog, and I LOVED her. She went every where with me..in the car, outside to climb the tree, play on the grass, even took a 3 hour flight with me cus my mom helped me sneak her on the plane ;) After she died.. my uncles got chickens..well okay, they were chicks to feed their snake. My grandma missed having the chicks in the house when they were "all gone" and made them build a coop in the backyard for more chicks that were STRICTLY off limits to the snake...and then my second pet was a Barred Rock hen :) I would sneak the whole flock into the house when no one was looking, would give them baths (I am sure they didn't approve), and once I snuck outside and slept on top of the coop to protect them from some raccoons that had broke into the coop and killed one of my other favorite hens. Yeah, I scared the crap out of my mom when she thought I was 'missing' the next morning..

Anyone else seeing this pattern of Rats and Chickens???

I get negative comments all the time. I've learnt to ignore them.

The one that hurt me the most, was from my older brother.
It had been raining for 2 days and it was really muddy and my Silkies some how got out of their coop and started to play in the mud.
So I took them inside and gave them a bath.

My brother posted on Facebook " I have never seen more of an idiot in my life, I'm so ashamed to call her a family member"
I showed my Mum what he posted and things that he said about me.
We ended up no speaking for two weeks.

But as my Mum said, I'm not the one with the problem he is.

Love the beer shot! HAHAHAHA AWESOME FUNNY!

I know that this will sound kinda mean and instigating, but i had someone make a comment like that two years ago on facebook as well. You know what I did? I posted up more photos of 'Bird and i closer yet!!!!! giving kisses, in my house, in the brooder in my living room with me cuddeling them etc. and it just made her madder. She couldnt help but look. I told her I am sorry that she doesnt approve of my ways and that she could/should just not look at my page and pictures. She couldnt stop looking, so i just put up more
.

This one drove her absolutley NUTS!!!!! I really dont approve of being an instigator, but hey, they were just honest 'Bird luv photos!!!!

um, on a bad side? I just treated my girls for an upper respiratory issue, and just went to my Dr. for bronchitus. Any relation? who knows. but i wont stop giving luvin to my babies either.

Someone mentioned to me today that they'd just taken one of their chickens to the vet. I'd been on camp as the 'bunkhouse leader' for the bunkhouse their daughter was in, and said daughter who was standing with me immediately looked panicked and asked, "It's not Chooky-Lou, is it?" (Chooky-Lou being the 2-month-old chick who lives in her bedroom and sleeps in bed with her). The mother hurried to assure her that it wasn't, but that one of the other chickens had had a cold for a week and it had moved to it's chest, so it was going to the vet for antibiotics. She then turned to me and the others girls standing there and said, "I guess it's pretty weird to take a chicken to the vet, isn't it?" I hurried to assure her that it wasn't, but the other girls looked pretty weirded out.

I took one of my chicks to the vet the other day. It was a less-than-a-week-old Welsummer girl, and I've been searching for Welsummers for months (who'd have thought they were so impossible to find?) so it was pretty important to me that it survived. She had been pecked pretty badly and her left wing was stripped to the flesh (we call her Nemo now). There were two dogs and a cat in there at a time - cue the strange looks.

I love the pics especially the portable baby crib as the brooder!! so cute the chicks roosting on the sides. There will always be someone who doesn't understand - they are ignorant. The worst comment I got was from the dog owner whose dog killed 4 of my girls, one was injured and I took her to the vet and had to have her put to sleep. When I went to the jerk he told me I was ridiculous for taking a chicken to the vet (they were my pets) and I should have brought her to him he would have killed her. I was so stunned I couldn't say anything. I wish I had been quick with a comeback about what if his dog was injured but it didn't matter to him, he will never understand how I care for my girls. I hate to admit it but my 3 new girls are around 7 weeks old and still in the brooder in the basement. Hope to get them out this week once the new run is finished and I figure out how to introduce them to the 1 girl who survived the dog attack. She likes to peck them! Yes I am the crazy chicken lady as my husband says!!
