P.S. Just want you to know the neighbors who had the chickens next door to us, were awesome people and tho my husband focused more on the chickens day to day, he knew they were nice people he just had to work something out,

I found this thread a few days ago and had to take the time to read through it all. All I can say is Wow!

I would definitely be doing exactly as most of the previous posters had said. Report his behavior, talk with an attorney, post the no trespassing signs. The last thing I would add is learn how to shoot a gun! Being a woman in the country you should know how to protect yourself and your animals with one. I in no way condone violence against other human beings, but I myself am a young country mom. I have 3 daughters aged 5 and under and my husband travels for work much of the time. You had better believe that I have access to the firearms when needed and I know how to use them if I need to.

It sucks that you have to go through this but keep your positive demeanor and be polite when you ask him to leave your property the next time he comes over uninvited. Look around a for women's farmers groups and see what you can do to be a member. It helps to have support from others who have forged these roads ahead of you.

HOLY! MOLY! I am so sorry that this man has mistaken his home in the country as a one man home Owner's Association. Where and who exactly does this guy think he is?

Documenting and reporting everything is going to really come in handy here if he keeps it up... and he will eventually come to be embarrassed by his own continued ignorance and behavior. I hope you have provided a follow-up report to the person you spoke with previously since he has escalated the issue by involving an animal welfare organization.

To everyone suggesting that YOU put up a privacy fence... NO WAY! That's really something HE should have to pay for since he is the one with the problem... and really, maybe you can suggest that as a course of action HE should take if he is so bothered by how you are using your land the next time he comes over to gripe about how you are using your land.

Speaking of which, he gave you his schpiel about why he moved out of the city... but this guy needs to understand the reason you choose to live in the country on 20 acres is every bit as valid as his and that you are not violating any ordinance by doing what you are doing.

Tell him that you get why he wanted to get out of the city... but let him know that he clearly needs to update his definition of country living because that includes farming, and livestock... that there are people who would consider manicuring a 20 acre lawn to be an incredible waste of land... as beautiful as it may be.

I'd also be inclined to thank him for calling the local animal welfare authorities out, because it has opened up the opportunity to potentially work with them to help educate others on the proper way to raise chickens, etc...

Maybe politely tell him it's time he lets it go, because he's just embarrassing himself.

He possibly requires an explanation for the difference between a lawn and a pasture. Be sure to tell him you'd be happy to mow your pasture for him if he'd be happy to buy food for all of your grazing animals for you... And that you'd be happy to get rid of your roosters for him if he'd be happy to hire someone to spend all day protecting and artificially inseminating your hens for you. Having an estimate for these services on hand for him to look at would be helpful (and hilarious).

Good grief, this man needs to spend an hour on google researching how to care for horses, chickens, etc before swaggering over to intimidate you about how it's messing up his view.

Tell me... do you hear a deafening clanging noise every time he comes over to talk down to you?

He clearly has no idea.

Uh its your land!! You have full rights to do what you want with it. If he messes with anything on your property he is breaking the law. AND don't give him eggs!! You worked hard for them.

Well I did read a lot of this thread sooooo....

What I would do is build the ugliest looking coop facing his place. It would be clean and healthy for the chickens Oh wait I would only put roo's in it but it would be ugly. When he comes out to say something either tell him you cant talk to him on your lawyers instructions or tell him the 20 hog's are going to be next to the "new coop". If he doesn't like roosters so much maybe you can get some peacocks maybe they wont make any noise

Sounds like he's taking shots at you so it's time to start shooting back let him know that if he thinks it bad now you don't know what bad can look like.

Whatever you do don't give in and good luck with whatever you do.

get yourself a pair of guinea fowl and THEN lets hear that guy complain. They are by far the loudest creatures I've ever owned and surprisingly enough... the neighbors don't mind... and I live on half an acre
