Neighborly Yard Etiquette

Ack.. renting it out. The cute little blue house at the end of my street is now rented out. Looking at what the renters have done to the outside of the house scares me about what the inside now looks like. The owners live two states away and no one comes and checks on it. *shudder*

Then again. The nut job two doors down hasnt mowed her own grass or done upkeep in 3 years now. The neighbors on one side do one half her front lawn. Neighbors on the other side were refusing to "enable" her. But the grass on that side got to be about 2 ft tall. The husband finally snapped and not only mowed the lawn, but then went and mowed down the 4 ft tall weeds on the sidewalk in front of her house.
Her crooked arbor finally fell over though. And is now resting on it's side on the front lawn. In a few weeks no one will be able to move it because the grass is going to grow up and around the thing. Nice.

Here is a similar scenario but I just dont know if I should care like you do or not care...... We have 2 acres that use to be surrounded by solid forest, now solid development. VERY small little lots with perfect houses, yada yada... Our property goes all the way up to the road that seperates the new houses from us but our fence sits back enough that there is a nice little 2000sq ft chunk of land, we mow it, it's lawn like.... Along the road I planted junipers (they are little, they need probably 10more years to become a hedge). Mostly it was so they wont park on our land, but also because it was darn nice of me, it will be pretty instead of dead grass from all the riff raff out there. Obviously we dont have a HOA, but they do.... They have perfectly green over- chemicalled postage stamp yards, have to admint they look pretty cute. So a few months ago, when some weeds were coming up around the junipers, a guy from 1 of the houses got out there with his trash can and weeded the whole hedge. So on my property, weeded my hedge. In addition to that, they play ball out there, take thier dogs for dumps out there, pick blackberrys, dont ever ask us.... I say nothing because I dont want to be picky, we dont really USE that land. But it's a little wierd. I would never go on to someone elses property to do ANYTHING without talking them. We have fun talking about how we should go over to thier houses and start landscaping, etc..... What do you think? Let well enough alone to keep peace or keep people off my property just because its my property?

Well I just want to say I take A LOT of pride in my front yard. It just kinda peed me off when I drove up and saw that..

If I was you..
idk what I would do. If it doesnt bother you it doesnt bother you. If it does put up signs

I might have typed exactly the same thing if you hadn't beaten me to it.

Yeah, I think it's sort of like you, you come home to someone has done something to your property and it feels like an invasion. I really just want them to ASK me, communicate, whatever, have some respect.... They are lucky to have our tree line for a view but I get the feeling the weed pulling wasnt just to be nice, it was to say we dont like looking at your weeds, we're to perfect for that. It's just wierd....

Thats probly what they were saying. Maybe a subliminal message..
Or maybe they are saying thank you for letting our dogs crap in your yard

Hahaha probably. I have this crazy vision of me where I go over to their yards with my wheel barrow and shovel and start planting weeds. When they confront me I say well I prefer weeds and its a free for all out here right?
