Neighbors chickens are a hot mess

If they have plenty of room to roam it doesn't take as much fence to keep chickens out as it does to keep them in.
When no one is willing to contain their chickens (and no one is willing to fence them out) it causes officials to ban them for everyone .(That's where its heading )My neighbor almost drove me bonkers before I finally built a fence. The only thing I regret is not doing it sooner.

There's gotta be some authority overseeing this that can be called in. Animal control, Board of Health, police, somebody! People not containing their animals is a problem no matter where you live. Nobody should have that kind of "freedom" - the freedom to cause roadside hazards, property destruction (in the form of poop and destroyed flowers/gardens), animals trespassing on private property etc. Go to the police if you have to. You have exhausted the peaceful avenues and proven that the neighbors are not cooperating. Time to move up to the next level. It should NOT be your responsibility to wall yourself off from the world with tall fences and forts just because your neighbors are irresponsible and not upholding their end of peaceful cohabitation among other people. It's absolutely on THEM to keep their animals on their own property, not on you to keep them off of yours. If the authorities are unwilling to step in, then take matters into your own hands and start trapping the chickens, and either dropping them off at a shelter as strays (which they are, if regularly roaming the neighborhood freely), or eating them. The neighbors had plenty of warnings and chances to correct this, which they have clearly refused to do. The ball is out of their court at this point.

Like it was mentioned before, contacting authorities will most likely lead to banning or tough restrictions.

I say catch the birds and eat them. If they keep buying more well now you have an endless supply of chicken dinners. With the prices of food these days I’ll take free dinners any day!!

But your other option would be build a fence.

I
Lots to unpack on that one. First, I am sorry you have to deal with opp. Usually being responsible for our own junk is job enough.

I'd probably secretly start trapping their chickens and taking them to the humane society so they can be adopted out. And I'd use the chicken wire you offered them for my garden.

It would be nice to have that conversation but sounds like you already did. If missing chickens and dead carcasses don't wake them up then obviously they won't notice Humane relocation.

Best of luck and keep us posted :hugs
I like your thinking...I'd like to do that with my neighbors loose dogs🤣 30 acres and I need fencing because of them..

YES! With the average cost of chicken up nearly 15%, I'll take free chickens every day, all day. Like Bubba Blue and his million ways to cook shrimp, chicken is a versatile meat that can be prepared in endless ways.

Not joking. I would totally eat those chickens one at a time until they ran out.

I don't understand how they've survived long as they have considering they run all over the neighborhood and aren't locked up at night. Mine would last a day if I turned them loose.

Be thankful it's not cats. They are as bad; tear up gardens and poop, spray your front door and ruin the flooring, sit on the driveway, cars, house roofs, etc. And they won't fix them so they keep adding to the population. It's gross and sad that some people have so little respect for their neighbors. I'm with the others, send those chickens to freezer camp.
