I think that the poster who was talking about the 3 year old being afraid already addressed this issue. The child isn't left unsupervised outside.

My son was mowing his lawn while wearing his I-Pod listening to music. He was approached by three dogs from the rear and taken down immediately, suffering three bites on his legs and he was wearing shorts. He is 6 ft 1 and quite strong. He got up and kept the mower still running tipped up to where he could ram it in to them if they got close enough to reach. He kept backing towards his open garage door where he was just hoping he would be able to quickly locate and grab his pitchfork. Four men pulled up in a truck with pitchforks and baseball bats and chased them away. Turns out these dogs had already bitten and terrorized someone else. In minutes they had bitten a small boy and a woman who tried to help him. The men joined by my son again chased them off. My son immediatelly went into his house and washed and disinfected the wounds thoroughly. The woman did not and even tho she was at a clinic in about 3 hrs, she had trouble for weeks with her wounds and my son had no trouble at all.

They tracked them down to owner by way of others who knew where they lived. Cops only came because they had had 3 sucessive calls of attacks on humans. Cops went to door and guy had them inside and swore they were not out all day long. My boy saw them and said they were the three who attacked both him and two others. kThe woman who was bitten agreed too. That redneck called him a liar and said in front of the police there on the scene that he would shoot him for lying. Then he said 'I got to go to work so you A******S better move your squad car. Believe it or not, he was not arrested! Animl control came and got them. Eventually the dogs were destroyed about 3 weeks later. My son has bought a really high-voltage cattle prod and carries both it and a wicked looking hook with him in his postal vehicle now.
