This is why I worry, reading things like this:

Their own dog killed all of their chickens, it sounds like they were penned up even.

That is why I advocate training dog even when there is no intention of having dog interact with birds. Mixups do occur and trained dog reduces risk when they do occur.

You can read lots of horror stories if you look for them. But there are TONS of happy stories too. I have 4 dogs and am surrounded by neighbors who almost all have dogs and I see strays on my street often and most of the homeless people in my area have dogs. My chickens free range almost everyday. I have lost chickens to other things, but never to dogs.

My chickens got into my neighbors yard (my fault). Their dog chased them and licked one but didn't hurt them. I would wait see what the situation is before you overly worry about.
