Cops and Animal control back this up as long as I'm not shooting into traffic or towards housing tracts (lol ok, not really but you get the general idea)...

My main carry weps are a snubby .38 or an old beat up .45. If I am walking n backpacking I'll have one of those and or my 12 gauge.

Loose dogs = Bad news. Loose dogs can cause livestock losses even if they are just running the edges of fences. Many animals will panic and hurt themselves up to and including bashing their own heads/necks in to escape.

I really wasn't joking.

My dogs are all on training collars. Even my 4 year old can safely walk an 85lb dog without fear of getting dragged around. If not leashed, my dogs are staked out with 3/8" coated steel line. If they get loose, well, they deserve whatever is dished out to them and I deal with the consequences and any losses/damages they cause (hasn't happened) but...

And I am an owner of a guard dog. Not a "guardian dog" but one who will tear your arm off if you try to hurt one of his "kids" or get in the house without permission. I have no sympathy for a dog who doesn't know his place in the world.. where he can and cannot go.

I wouldn't have thought a lot about this much, mainly because I lived in an area for most of my life where people never complained about lose dogs because no one had any issues with them.

Actually it isn't... at least according to my state and county laws. Any animal harassing livestock can be put down without any further ado in Michigan where it is legal to hunt/shoot... obviously if your city/county has an ordinance about discharging a firearm that supersedes this but still...

Totally within my legal rights.

I encourage you to look up the laws on loose dogs. And I am a dog lover... Just hate bad owners.

I wouldn't have thought a lot about this much, mainly because I lived in an area for most of my life where people never complained about lose dogs because no one had any issues with them.

I guess it depends on where you are from, farming etc....

A dog can run a calf ragged, a pack can kill off a small herd of goats and sheep in no time flat.. Chickens? A jack russel can kill 20 in a matter of minutes.. Depends on what you do, where you are etc... If I lived downtown City ville it may be different.. but I don't.......

Not to be a big turd, but letting your dog loose doesn't crown you as an idiot owner. Dogs, like people should be able to be free at some point, without any leashes or fences. No matter how insane that sounded, it's true. It would be cruel to never let your dog travel outside of its house.

I have cause i do have to problem with loose dogs so i have called animal control to see what i can do about it. And you know what i did. I went and talked to the person. In my eyes shotting a dog because its on your property is not a dog lover, just because there owners are not good for them. Thats what animal control is for. And an animal loose on your property just checking things out is not harassment. If its not killing your animals why kill it?

If an owner allows his animals to trespass and put themselves into harms way, they shouldn't own any animals.. Long story short.. If you live in Central Michigan, keep your dogs on your own property.. cuz I am a nice guy, but they start messing with me and mine, you won't get a polite knock on your door. You won't know what happened.
