And tell her about BYC!!!!

I got two of my hens for free because of raccoons. The owner had them in a 6ft high wire enclosure, with no roof. He was complaining about the terrible predators and offered me the survivors. Out of two dozen, I got the last two.

They've been some of my best layers.

Well, I have considered MYOB. My gut says to say something, and if I get the MYOB attitude from them, so be it. You sound a bit harsh for my taste, expose kids to hatred and bloody death? Yikes!
I'll stick with maybe being thought of as a busy body chicken lady and maybe saving the little girl the awfulness of finding a blood bath in her coop

You should not MYOB in this case. I could care less about foolish people like your neighbors ,what I care about is the slaughter of these little innocent chicks because your neighbors are morons. I think you are doing the rite thing.

not that everyone has extra hardware cloth lying around - nor that they'd want to fund stupidity - but could you offer some with a "Hey, I had a bit of this left from our coop. Did you want it to cover the holes and protect your daughter's chicks from all the [killer] raccoons?"
