POST

Does it count if I don't have a life and have been glued to the computer all day?

Missy, you need to put up running stuff and fireworks and all sorts of stuff celebrating your win!

Are you going to do your own massage then? LOL

Congratulations on being the 10,000th post!!!!!

That would be a trick! Lol! I do feel a little guilty that I've been more than available on the forum while sitting here waiting for the furnace dude to show up. (Though I won't turn down an olive egger.)

congrats, Missy! Maybe you guys better expand your coop plans before you start your build to be sure you can fit in all the new chickens you have coming your way this spring.

The current plans are 40 square feet (10x4) floor space, with 6 vertical feet for roosting and 8 exterior nesting boxes. Plus they have the entire backyard for a run, and I'll still have the old coop, which is big enough for at least 6 full-grown hens. (It'll be the hospital, or maybe the pullet/silkie cage.) What is it, 2 sq ft per hen, if they have a good outside run? I also have the pond area (about 10x10) for the ducks, with inside lodging at night. And I'll tractor the hens between the front lawn and the 3 gardens, depending on the bug situation and what plants are susceptible.

I think I'm justifying this more to myself than anyone else. My husband knows how many chicks are coming, and he hasn't yet told me to stop.

I'm not going to deny that I might have a few too many chickens coming my way.

The ameraucanas are coming to me straight-run, though, so I'll see what I have left after culling out the roosters and the meanies. But I have two good friends who would like any extras I get. As long as they're not evil, anything that lays a spectacular egg will have a permanent home.

Yay! Missy has the chicken math down pat already!!!!

Yep, 2 sf per bird for sleeping only. If they are in an area where they can't free range and such then you need 10sf per bird unless you have bantams then it's only 5sf per bird. LOL

I'm just teasing you. i have myself convinced that the silkies I have coming don't really count towards my total since they are straight run and bantams. with my luck, my ameraucanas will be cockerels anyway.
