Nevadans?

We finally got another EE egg. This one is a slightly bluer green so it's from a different chicken from the first 2 green eggs. The other EE laid 2 eggs and the last one was over 2 weeks ago. Hopefully she'll start laying some more. This one was laid in the run.

Gunda has started a new trend--laying on the floor in the corner between the wall and the trash can where I keep the shavings.

I found 3 eggs back there this morning. Our next door neighbor has spotted a raccoon in their yard. Glad I built a strong coop. I haven't seen any signs of raccoons trying to get in.

We brought the chicks in the house for a bit to play with them. Laila was thrilled to have a couple on her lap.

Your coop is a fortress!

My BR lays eggs in weird places, too. Her first two were in the nesting boxes. I suspect the one just inside the door was hers. Yesterday, she squatted right next to the picnic table, in the open yard. Maybe easter egg hunts are going to be a literal occurance for awhile.

I love the distinct barring on your marans! Mine aren't that distinct yet, but I think I can count on one being a pullet.

Sheryl what swap is this? Are they her own birds? I've never seen a swap in Reno except for a few local neighbors getting together which is not the same thing as the huge auctions they have in California and many other places. Is this the Poultry show that happens in November? They sell very few birds there. Mostly unwanted roos. And it is also tiny compared to most poultry shows.

No, this swap is one Julie puts together and she did it with her birds and if anyone else wanted to join in they could. It's where I met Heather last year and paid for the WH's ducks and she held them for me until November. She had your Lavender Orpington Rooster there, he was the most gorgeous bird I've ever seen. He was huge and majestic. He was taken fast too. Heather wanted to buy him but he was gone before she could tell Julie she wanted him.

She'll let us know when it is this year.

Yes we will be discussing swaps at our next Northern Nevada Poultry Fanciers meeting. Feed World has been asking us already. And the 4-H kids have done swaps at Kruse's feed store in Washoe Valley. I will let you know of the dates as soon as we set them. We do them as fundraiser for our club and to get our NNPFA club and our upcoming show exposure. Mostly local breeders come to the swaps bringing their birds and we also try to rehome roosters for a $5 donation per bird.

Yes there is always a risk when bringing home unknown birds so quarantine is important. KNOCK on wood I have not had a problem, I have shown birds at various shows (CA and NV) for past 9 years, I try very hard to be careful when reintroducing show birds.

There is a poultry auction in Roseville 2 times a month but the birds are culls and I have seen ill ones so I wouldn't recommend anyone getting birds there to improve their flock but maybe as rescues

The PPBA show in Stockton every January has a great sale barn with lots of pure bred birds, but expect to pay $$$$ for Show Quality, $$ for Breeder Quality. I have sold birds at the NNPFA show and also the PPBA show. My kids have also purchased birds for showing and done well with them.

There is a lady on CL selling Lavendar Orpingtons that are the same lines that I got my Lavs from. The Lav Orp rooster I sold at the swap was her chicks. She got them from back East.

Also for anyone interested that has a home business we offer booth spaces at our show in November, and a group can get together and share one booth.

These are Petey's babies! I have 4 show girls and they finished hatching this am! I always take back any roosters from my own chicks :) I then either rehome or keep them depending on how they are.

Hmmm, that's a little small to be mixing with my current brood. Maybe if you still have them when they're a bit bigger?

Here is my latest hatch that finished yesterday 19 hatched these are for sale.... Buff and Light Brahmas, Silkies, and Show girls...the 2 dark chicks and 2 buff chicks are brahmas, the dark stripey and 3 light colored chicks surrounding the buff chick are Show Girls and the light gray chick up by the dark chicks is the blue/lavendar Silkie. These are straight run, but I will always take back any that turn out to be roosters if you can't keep them.

These Mallards are for sale too!!

And these little black ducks are Mallard crosses! PM me if you are interested!

Great looking eggs Elizabeth!

Such adorable pics of cute babies!!!

Went to Sheryl's today. 1 little duckling was hatched and dry. Another had pipped. Soooo cute!

I set 53 eggs today for the Easter hatch. Most of them are Genny's and will go home with her after hatching but I threw in a few of my BCM pullet's eggs too. They probably won't hatch but I couldn't resist. I will be adding 2 dozen Yokohama eggs plus another dozen BCM eggs from sewandgrow, and Kim said she will have a few for me as well to pick up on Tuesday if the weather doesn't get any worse. Otherwise it will be Wednesday before I can get them.
