Nevadans?

Thanks Aubrey! He just texted me there's another one - number eight. What do you think that roo is?

ETA: I don't envy you Missy!

Congratulations Ron on the new chicks, pm me when you're ready for me to get one of them. I was going to say the same thing about your roo, I don't think it's a delaware and what rooster has that barring except the Barred Plymouth Rocks and Dominques?

OMG Misty, that is one tough race to get into. I think we all need to come and cheer you both on. They were in Tahoe last year for the first time and I heard they were going to do it again this year. Okay, let us know the details when you can. I know it's September 22nd & 23rd. I'll be sipping my coffee cheering you guys on. WOW.

Sunny, that's really great with your project. I'm trying to convince John we need a roo now and I was thinking of getting one of your guys since you have so many. It will take me a while to convince him but if you have any pics of your boys I sure would like to see them?

Kim, how are you doing lately? How's the arm?

Elizabeth, I get a speckled one like that every so often from my SLW. I thought it was stress though that caused it, perhaps I'm wrong?

Aubrey, it was very nice to see you today and thanks for your help with the ducks and their baths. Later on today Harmony actually went all the way under the water and swam a bit. She's doing better now but I still must do special needs with her. I'm going to take her back to the vet to see what we can do with her lower bill being longer than her upper. She's also a lot smaller than her brother and that isn't a good thing. I'm hoping she can survive this whole ordeal.

Henzilla went outside today for like 5 minutes and back in she wanted. Wow, I never knew about broody's holding their poo in until they are off the eggs. I have never seen such a big poo from such a little hen.

And I was thinking of letting her out in the house so she wouldn't be too far from her eggs, boy am I glad I decided she was to go outside instead. She is now sitting on 4 duck eggs and she screams if she doesn't want anyone around her. She's not pecking anymore though.

So uh... want to know what I agreed to train for with my husband, without ever checking out what it involved?

http://toughmudder.com/

Good thing there are 6 months to train.

OMG Missy! My daughter and her husband are doing the tough mudder! I couldn't believe it when they showed us what it is! The run marathons and are still training. Although I think the tough mudder would be way more fun then a marathon! It's a good cause. Good luck to you and your team.

We have chicks!

Today is day 20 and he just called me to say that 7 have hatched so far. Here's some pics (not great quality - cell phone):

Sunny here is the Delaware Roo (at least I hope that's what it is) he has that I'm going to cross with the hens I got from you. This picture doesn't do him justice - he's really gorgeous.

There's a biker rally in Dayton today and I got this picture of a couple of the biker chicks.

LOL Love the biker chicks! I was wondering why no one had done this. At least I hadn't seen it til now. Congrats on the chicks!!! That is so cool!!!

And yea, Aubrey is right. That is not a delaware roo. I've never seen a roo like that. He looks like a delaware on the top half but still more color than the del boys usually have and cuckoo marans on the bottom half. If he is part dominique then that would not be the best mix. Dominiques can be agressive.

sunny i was going to get one i was going to try for SQ but i want a dark egg
hmm.png
oh well i see what you have

A pullet that is SQ and lays a super dark egg would be very expensive! At this stage I am not even ready to sell the darkest layers anyway. I'll need a few seasons (at least) before that happens.

You've never heard of the infamous broody poos?!!! hahaha

OK if this weather ever lets up I will head out to get pics of the boys. I need to send pics to Kirsten anyway. I tried a couple of times but I need Steve home to help. They just don't seem to get the whole posing thing! Kirsten gets first right of refusal though on my cull boys, since I promised her a couple of boys awhile ago before my Mom got sick.

It is "Kirstie." I also have a BYC friend named Kristin and mixed their names up in an email once. Didn't go over too well

Hi all,

My name is Mandy and I live in Virginia City. I'm pretty new to the area, but we have 16 white leghorns, and until a few hours ago we had 6 new mystery chicks. Thats actually how I found this site. Our heat lamp malfunctioned while we were out and we lost 4 of our 8 week old pullets and one of the survivors isn't doing well. It's killing my family and I listening to them call for their lost friends. My husband has had to leave the room several times crying.

PLEASE is there anyone in the area with chicks that are close in age to mine? I'm happy to pay for them or do favors, whatever you like, but this is breaking my heart. Everyone is so sad, and the chicks keep crying.

I am sorry to have found this site under such awfull cicumstances, but I hope to make new friends here, and thank you to everyone in advance.

The first pic I saw of him the light areas looked bright white. Then my friend sent me this pic today along with the chicks and it doesn't even look like the same bird. Ah well...

NV thread!

So sorry to hear about your chicks. Unfortunately, I can't help you. A friend and I are hatching some right now but they are babies, and all my others are full grown.
