Nevadans?

Also if anyone is interested I'd like to place an order for chicks from Murry McMurry Hatchery. I really don't need 25 more chicks but if someone or several people would like to put in an order together I'd love to hear from you.

Hi all,

My name is Mandy and I live in Virginia City. I'm pretty new to the area, but we have 16 white leghorns, and until a few hours ago we had 6 new mystery chicks. Thats actually how I found this site. Our heat lamp malfunctioned while we were out and we lost 4 of our 8 week old pullets and one of the survivors isn't doing well. It's killing my family and I listening to them call for their lost friends. My husband has had to leave the room several times crying.

PLEASE is there anyone in the area with chicks that are close in age to mine? I'm happy to pay for them or do favors, whatever you like, but this is breaking my heart. Everyone is so sad, and the chicks keep crying.

I am sorry to have found this site under such awfull cicumstances, but I hope to make new friends here, and thank you to everyone in advance.
I have 6 week old chicks so it's a 2 week age difference. If you just want chicks for company, I have 2 BLRW cockerels and a black/lavender split ameraucana cockerel you can have. I don' t have any pullets I'm willing to give up but if you want the cockerels, they're yours.

It is "Kirstie." I also have a BYC friend named Kristin and mixed their names up in an email once. Didn't go over too well

Oh I knew I had it wrong! I also had a friend named Kirsten and that is why I had that in my head! Don't know why but I was really missing her today. She was a very sweet person, you know, one of those folks that always breaks out in a huge smile when they see you? She passed way too young of a heart attack. I always said she had a huge heart! Never knew she actually did have an enlarged heart.

Hi Mandy! That is my favorite Niece's name too! OK she is my only niece but I still think she'd be my favorite if I had more. lol Welcome to the Nevada thread!

I will add you to the opening post as soon as I finish up here.

I do have a couple of 9 week old chicks that I could spare but I'm not sure that they are pullets. But to tell you the truth it is not a good idea to mix birds from another flock without keeping them in quarantine for awhile. That would kinda defeat your purpose.

Hi SunnyDawn,

That would be great. I don't have any Roosters at the moment so even if one or two turned out to be males I don't think it would be an issue, my leghorns are 9 months old and they have developed there own groups anyway so hopefully any Roos would eventually pic their own set of hens.

You are absolutely right about keeping them quarantined, and under normal circumstances I would never introduce new chicks to already established ones, but as I said I think we may loose our last turkin chick before the nights up, and the other chick is so distraught without her friends I'm afraid the stress of being alone could be more damaging.

I feel I've acidently hijacked the thread however, could you PM me when you get a chance please?

Chicharomirinda I apprieciate the offer!, but I think I'd feel better with some older chicks.

Sorry. I probably shouldn't keep saying whatever pops in my brain. I was just missing her a lot today. She passed a few years ago. I feel very blessed to have had her for a friend though. People that precious are hard to find.

Sunny that is sad but it's also wonderful you found a friend like her. She must have been around you today if she popped in your head like that.

Hi Mandy, I'm so so sorry for your losses. You can mix new chicks if you have more of them or the same number of what you have now. It is taking a risk as you know. How many do you think you will need? I don't have any to give up, I only have 2 - 3 week old chicks with my 2 - 2 week old ducklings. I'm hoping perhaps Candy or Kim might have some for you?

I love VC, as most of everyone on here knows. My MIL has a house she has rented out there. She grew up there a long time ago. Sierra is also there with her yard full of chickens and the renters has chickens too. That might be an option for you as well Mandy?
