Nevadans?

Sunny that is sad but it's also wonderful you found a friend like her. She must have been around you today if she popped in your head like that.

I love that thought!

Hi Mandy, I'm so so sorry for your losses. You can mix new chicks if you have more of them or the same number of what you have now. It is taking a risk as you know. How many do you think you will need? I don't have any to give up, I only have 2 - 3 week old chicks with my 2 - 2 week old ducklings. I'm hoping perhaps Candy or Kim might have some for you?

I love VC, as most of everyone on here knows. My MIL has a house she has rented out there. She grew up there a long time ago. Sierra is also there with her yard full of chickens and the renters has chickens too. That might be an option for you as well Mandy?

Hi Sheryl,

Thank you for the information as well as the kind thoughts.

We've only been in our home for a few months and it was a pretty trashed bank repo, but we're getting it fixed up slowly. I'm hoping to have it done in time for the 4th of July so I can invite any new friends I make over for a barbeque and the local fireworks. I'll keep you all updated on my progress, but I'd love all the locals to come. It would be great to meet other chicken addicts lol.

Hi all,

My name is Mandy and I live in Virginia City. I'm pretty new to the area, but we have 16 white leghorns, and until a few hours ago we had 6 new mystery chicks. Thats actually how I found this site. Our heat lamp malfunctioned while we were out and we lost 4 of our 8 week old pullets and one of the survivors isn't doing well. It's killing my family and I listening to them call for their lost friends. My husband has had to leave the room several times crying.

PLEASE is there anyone in the area with chicks that are close in age to mine? I'm happy to pay for them or do favors, whatever you like, but this is breaking my heart. Everyone is so sad, and the chicks keep crying.

I am sorry to have found this site under such awfull cicumstances, but I hope to make new friends here, and thank you to everyone in advance.

Welcome! Im so sorry to hear about your babies. Weve all lost little ones and know how sad it is. I really hope you find replacements soon

I wish I had some extras that age, but I don't right now. My friend Kirstie might though. Her BYC name is Harris5. She is in California, about an hour from Truckee. They most likely would be Marans or lavender/black split Ameraucanas. I can ask her if you like and let you know

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all the kind thoughts, and the help. Thanks to SunnyDawn, I think I've found some chicks to help my last two babies cope with their loss as well as ours. Their still crying this morning, but our one turken pullet did make it through the night so hopefully she'll make it ok. I'm not sure what kind of hen our other little survivor will be. Maybe I'll get a chance to get some pics up later today. Thanks again everyone. It has meant a great deal to my family and I.

VCfeathers, as far as a hatchery order goes... have you tried calling up the local feed stores to see what they have? I think everyone on here is pretty much set this year for chicks. Actually, we combined orders several months ago. I may be wrong on that, though... someone on here might still want to combine. But, the last time I was in Sierra Feed here in Reno, they had chicks. Green's Feed might have them, as well. That way you could get some good laying breeds without paying for shipping or buying a minimum of 25. There's nothing exotic, though. I got my Delaware and salmon faverolles from Green's last year, but that seems to be about as exotic as they get.

Mandy, I go up to VC about twice a year if not more so I'm sure we shall meet up someday too.

I'm glad your little chickie made it through the night. I hope she hangs in there. We are here for you whenever you need us.

Anywhooo so im thinking i have 3 roos and 2 pullets.

Julie the showgirls are looking really nice. I think when you take the roos back you should seriously consider keeping the partrdge at least for breeding. I think theyre going to look really nice (although since they only carry one nn gene their offspring with a silkie will definitely only be 50% nn. I had forgotten that since petey has two copies of the gene ALL of his offspring will be naked neck.) I have never had such an easy time sexing chicks as i have with these birds. The size differences are immense and combs are already developing. Julie, their toe spacing and foot feathering is fantastic. you should be very proud.

and the blacks (blues?) I think our lil fluffer head is a pullet. pullet left, roo right

Just for fun I found a young picture of Petey for you. He was a little a** when he was little. ALWAYS biting my fingers and being a total jerk.

AUBREY!!! Thanks for posting pics!!! So far I have hatched 12 SG chicks, 4 you have, 4 hatched 4 weeks ago and 4 that just hatched and I jst sold to a lady in Incline. I am very pleased with these chicks. But funny thing i have not hatcheted another with such as vaulted skull as yours have! I had a couple that didn't hatch and I looked in the egg and they had vaulted skulls, so I am gonna be watching closer for future hatches and may have to help. I have to help my Call ducks hatch because of tiny beaks and large round heads.

I have a huge hatch due Easter.......70 chicken eggs! I will be so busy with so many to hatch! Happy Easter All!!

Oh that is so sad, I hate it when heat lamps(and incubators malfunction!!) I have hatchery pullets that are close to the age of your babies!! they are just over 6 weeks. Barred Rocks, Buff Orps, RIR, and Partridge Rocks.... $8 each. PM me if you are intereted. Sorry that happened to you guys!

VC feathers, if you call Greens Feed they will most likely be able to special order you whatever breed you want to arrive on their next chick shipment. They are by far the friendliest and most helpful feedstore in town.
