We got 13 eggs today--one of those a green one.

seems like the EEs are getting a little more consistent. the chicks are doing great. Getting friendlier by the day. We may have a black lav split am named "Puffy Puff" now. Laila decided that would be a good name. She looks like a pullet but I'm not 100% sure. she has the puffiest black cheeks so the name fits.

congrats on your hatch, Ron!

Wow, thank you everyone you are all so very nice and helpfull.

I had a great time meeting Dawn and Her husband today. They were great!, and our new chicks are doing very well and seem to be getting along well. I put them all out in the little run we built for our chicks on nice days. I'll get some pictures of them all after my camera charges.

Julie I've never been to a swap, I'll have to come check it out.
glad it worked out for you. Hope the chicks keep getting along.
Original killed a mouse today! She's one kickbutt chicken. I think, when I start trading out hens as they get older, she'll end up staying to lead the flock. A bit opinionated, but not obnoxiously noisy... she lets me know when anything isn't going on right in the yard.
Go Original!

I have a question. How much should I sell my eggs for?
idunno.gif
I am going to establish a list of people, starting with friends and acquaintances, who want eggs and then go down the list when I have a dozen to sell. I have almost 3 dozen extras right now. I have seen some people on craigslist selling them real cheap and I don't know how they can do that with the price of feed the way it has gone up. It's gone up a good $2-3/bag since I got my chicks in September.

I sell mine for $3 a dozen Elizabeth. Which I thnk is cheap, especially when compared to store bought eggs. The best organic eggs at the store sell for $5 a dozen, and they aren't anywhere near the quality of my eggs. I sometimes give away a half dozen just to get someone "hooked", like any good pusher.

After they try them they never "squawk" at the price!

I was very busy at work today Sheryl. I'm trying to wrap up a big project. On top of the usual day-to-day stuff.

I don't have anything going on right now other than the norm Sheryl. All of my plants that I started in the house are coming up except for the eggplant. That hasn't sprouted yet. Probably a little too cool yet in here. Still have more planting to do though.

Congrats on the eggs Elizabeth. I can't wait for my colored egg layers to start laying.

I always sold my normal eggs at $3 a dozen but with feed going up I plan to sell them for $4 a dozen. With the colorful blue, green, brown, white and chocolate mix of eggs in the carton (which customers love) I shouldn't have any problems. We eat all the smaller, misshapen or odd colored eggs ourselves so the premium eggs are what is left for customers. If someone is dying for eggs and I have nothing else left I will sell the smaller ones at a reduced price.

Yes that is too cheap Ron!!! Glad you live so far away. Otherwise folks would be buying from you instead! hahaha At that price I would be losing money on every dozen I sold. Not that I will ever make money selling eggs. Still a little help with feed is nice.

The only reason I sell them that cheap is because there are peoople around here selling them for $2 a dozen!

I refuse to sell them that cheap. So I mostly sell them to people that live in Carson City or Minden/Gardnerville.
