Fun to see pictures of the chicks

I am guessing the buff x wheaten is a pullet

Ok, here are some photos to liven up this thread a bit. Here's Splash.

Buff X Wheaten in the middle. Any guesses on gender?

the lovely W/BW boy

love this sweet BLRW

I sell my eggs for $4 a dozen and people grab them up as fast as I can get them cleaned and packaged. We also have Craigslist people selling them for $2 but I think if it's too cheap people thinks something's wrong so I wouldn't worry about it. Plus, I have such a colorful assortment. Everyone comments that they're almost too pretty to eat!

I sell about 6 dozen a week and it sure helps offset the feed. Since most of my flock free range all day I don't go through a lot of feed but I also have three horses so it sure helps!

Love seeing all the chicks and ducks! Glad to see so many posts tonight, I need to be entertained! :)

Oh, and I saw a picture of some cute deviled eggs that looked like little hatching chicks. I'm going to make some for my grandkids for Easter.

It looks like I need to raise my prices! I've been letting Sahara sell them for $3 a dozen ($4 for an 18-pack) with a 50-cent discount for recycling egg cartons. She has to give me $1.50/$2 back for feed. But I'm still tallying how many eggs I actually get for a bag of feed, so I'm not even sure what the value of my eggs are yet. Sahara has a standing client at $3.50 for an 18-pack (she gave us a ton of recycled egg cartons) but she's been a family friend forEVER, who was responsible for even landing me my whole work-at-home setup, so she can get a discount like that, NO problem!

Great pics, Elizabeth! I'm still worrying that Sesame is a male. Now that he/she is feathered out more, I'll try to take some pics in good light, with a good camera, and post them.

good to know. I think I'll plan on $4/dozen. I also saw that picture of the chick deviled eggs. Probably won't do it this year but maybe sometime. Post a photo when you do it!

Post some photos of Sesame so we can see. I think it'll be pretty clear by this time. Is she 3 weeks old now?

I must take more pics of my little flock. Lacey's comb is coming in red and it's huge along with the red waddles, she's very bossy too. Her head feathering isn't coming in yet and her legs are thick. I'm really thinking boy here now. I'll be posting pics. Amanda's comb is still small but it looks like she's a girl perhaps.

We shall see.

Elizabeth, it seems your new chickens are pretty friendly. Lacey and Amanda is friendly once you pick them up but you must chase them down first. The ducks don't like to go swimming unless they can see their chicks so now I put them in the tub and go get the chicks for them, once they see the chicks then they start diving and swimming under water.

Ok, finally some pictures!

The coop is almost done! I still have to buy some asphalt shingles for the roof. And I also want to get some wrought iron plant hangers, and put hanging baskets on either side of the door to grow some tumbling tom tomatoes. The plastic is still on to protect against the weather, but will be open hardware cloth in a month or so, and look even less ghetto.

And the back...

Even the dogloo got a facelift. Now that the chickens show interest in it, the dog actually wants it.

The big kids out, enjoying a warm day... I think this group actually has a high pullet count, versus the little kids.

My gold cuckoo marans... pullet or cockerel? Anyone?

And two mystery marans... Candy said there's a chance that Kirsten put in some BCM culls. Not sure what breed or gender. Any guesses?

And here's Sesame, who is looking less like a she and more like a he. If s/he is a cockerel, then someone has a chance of getting a beautiful, sweet-natured rooster.

And the blue one, who looks a bit dark as well.

Both wheatens have a sweet temperment. I'm still crossing my fingers for a girl, but hope is dimming. Actually, out of that whole batch (of 14 that I have here) it looks like I have maybe 4 pullets. 2 lavenders, maybe a black split and a buff x wheaten. But they're still pretty young.

I agree with you Pam! At $2 a dozen I would worry that something is wrong with those eggs. Why would someone sell them for so much less than their worth, unless something is up?

Oh I love the coop Missy! And the Dogloo! It doesn't look ghetto at all. I don't think you've seen many chicken coops if you think that's a ghetto coop. LOL Oh and yes you have a roo in that first pic. Sorry! His feathers looked so pullet at first but that's why I always wait til they are 3 weeks old. Their feathers often turn very dark right at 3 weeks when they looked so light up until then.

I've never had blue wheatens but that second one looks like a roo too. Sorry. I know you can't keep roos where you are at.

You all have such lovely eggs and chicks! What with my layers all being white leghorns I get tons of eggs but no color. I have a standing order from the locals here in V.C. for 8 dozen eggs a week at $3 a dozen, but they always recycle the cartons and I don't mind the lower price because my girls are so efficient with there feed. I also let them free range. Even with the organic feed they get they're covering their expenses plus enough to by my hubby a coffee when I run to town for suplies.

Why does he get the coffee you might ask? Because even though I feed and collect eggs every day. He's the one that sat here all day Saturday with our little turken pullet in his lap, feedind her mineral oil and giving her massages as he worked on photos at his computer. She did survive the heat lamp malfunction, only to wind up crop bound the next day. Thanks to his care, her and our other little survivor are doing great.

Sunny I have to tell you the chicks we got from you are great. They're so sweet with people. I think I'm going to name the little lav roo you gave me Peregrine. He kind of looks like a hawk because of his eyes, and if I scratch under his chin he climbs up and sits on my shoulder. LOL. He sat there while I did my rounds last night (putting up my girls, feeding the horse, etc.) Then he settled back down with the little split girl you gave me and went to sleep. I had my babies on our bedroom porch yesterday in the sun, and two leghorn girls flew over the rail to steal their feed (they could care less about the chicks) and he ran after them chasing them straight off the porch. I laughed so hard I cried. here was this sweet little Roo that calmly lets my two year old pet him and he had no issues or thoughts at all about chasing my big girls away from his little hens.

Mandy, perhaps your little roo was checking out his new flock he's going to woo once he gets out of the chicken bin? I love how he goes around with you to do your chores. Amanda did that with me last night. It's so cute when they do that. Of course the rest of the flock wanted to join in as well so I let Mo hang around with me, he's not as loving as Harmony due to me not wanting to hold him a lot if I wasn't going to keep him. If anyone is interested in a nice drake though please let me know, he's going to need a home soon.
