3 of 6 eggs in the bator have pipped. Going out to make one more check then have to go to bed. work starts at 5 in the morning. gonna be a long day wondering about how the chicks are progressing.

I Just got on the site and I love it!!

I have just received 6 Penedensca straight runs. I am really hoping there are at least 4 girls in there! I will be needing a home for any roos I get. These are the partridge coloration.

I also have too many chickens for my space, so I am gonna see if someone can take a couple of 1 year-old hens. 1 barred rock and 1 production red.

I had my suspicions about that Australorp's comb & waffles

My coop last spring, designed for 6 hens. I have since added a "run" along the side since I found out the hard way that chickens eat EVERYTHING green in my yard. Our garden last year and most of our plants were nibbled to nothing as I let the chickens roam the whole yard. Not to mention, my dog, whom I trusted (don't ask) ate 1 chicken and damaged another. The barred rock she damaged never re-grew feathers on her neck, but she still lays eggs just fine. Since then I have taken precautions to prevent another chicken slaughter by my golden.
