Welcome
to all the new NV members!

I just do not think I am going to make the swap - I do have it marked on my calander - but am closing my flock for now, just got a shipment of MF Cochins - 2 pullets, a roo and a cockerel, who are in quarantine and I have 3 broodies with chicks and a new broody who just started sitting yesterday --- my plate is past full

I have thought about bringing birds down - but do not want to either a)come home with more or b) bring those that I brought down back home (quarantine issues again).

I will have pullets and cockerels for sale this fall - they will be Orpington crosses, lots of EEs, some Delawares and straight Orpington - if anyone should still be looking after the swap. Most of my colors are blue or blue based.

Hello, Sparks.

Penturner, how are your little ones doing?

I'm looking forward to tomorrow's construction on the new coop, so we can finally start getting some chickens!

The final roster for what we want is:

1 EE
1 Plymouth Rock
1 Welsummer
1 Leghorn
1 ISA Brown

Does anybody see any conflicts or issues with this list?

Take care all,

Jason

Tom, The swap is a week from tomorrow in Washoe valley. The address is in a post a page or two back. I plan to be there for a little while and we are talking about bringing our Serama Rooster. Not going to trade or sell him but just an ice breaker in order to let people know these birds will be available in the Reno area soon. Well sort of soon. the breeding stock is a little busy growing up right now, but we are working on it. Sweet coop you have their. And yeah you can never turn your back on a dog with chickens. even trying to play they will kill them. I have two pit chow mixes that are simply being taught not to touch. But I would never take my eyes off them.

Three new chicks hatched yesterday. We also had our single most disheartening moment so far concerning chickens. One chick died after pipping. It's a long story as to how it happened but it is almost like we set back and watched a chick die that we knew needed help. it was a gut wrenching moment of the sort that knocks the wind out of you. My daughter and I are both kicking ourselves pretty good, but we will get past it.

I will post pictures as soon as I can for all you fuzzy butt addicts. Bear with me though as I have gotten in over my head with the birds, my daughters birthday and some things that are going on with my mother. It's gonna be a rough ride for the next few weeks at least.

He is talking about the chick picks I think, the yellow ones being white broilers.

Definitely some gorgeous birds ya have.
The first bird picture ya posted, the one that has a shawl around its neck and feathered feet
....she looks somewhat like a Brahma - Bantam.
Be curious what others come up with.

I have 5 Easter Egger, 2 Barred Rock, 4 Australorp, 4 Gold Sex Links & 5 Black Sex Links, 4 Rhode Island Red, 4 Orpington

Geeeesh, I did it again and miscounted chickens
........thereare 27 girls and ONE roo
........not 29 girls and one roo

My fav's are the Easter Eggers cuz of their fluffy cheeks........they look like little chipmunks faces.
But I enjoy all the girls, acheeem, and the roo too

, for their unique personalities.
Its so fun to be greeted by all of their bakbak's when I enter the coop.

So the Brahma is the same size as the other full size type chickens. Is a bantam a small chicken?

That my understandin'......Bantams or "bannies" "banties" are smaller chicken.
We have a black & white Brahma-Bantam....yers has similar markings which prompted me suggest it could be a Brahma.

Hello everybody! We are back from vacation. We went to Arches National Park and the Grand Canyon on a camping trip. Saw some gorgeous scenery!!! Hi to all the new folks, Echetino, myaussies, mylittlechickpea and The Sparks Coop! Welcome to the Nevada thead!

Humbrd, I only have 3 silver Ameraucanas left and I was wrong when I said they were all girls! The boys have the tiniest combs with almost no pink so they threw me for awhile! Now that their feathers are so different they have given away their true gender.
hmm.png
I have 2 boys and 1 girl and I was really wanting to keep a pair of silvers since they are said to have the best, true blue, colored eggs. This is the first time I have raised pure bred Ameraucanas and even though I don't have a breeding program, per se, I thought it would be fun to breed a few from this pair. Plus I am looking forward to seeing the pretty blue eggs from this silver girl. I'd let you have the roo for a song though.

Silly isn't it? Raising these pure breds for the pretty eggs alone? I don't even show my birds.
hmm.png
But I am just enamored with the ones I have right now! Their muffs and beards are soooo full now! Their heads look so round and fluffy with the new growth! They are just adorable!
