Nevadans?

So Laila's favorites are the duckling and the naked neck, which are not even ours.

She thinks we should get ducklings. She thought we could just get a bucket of water for them to swim in.

Ok, maybe I'll take some more photos. It is not as comfy hanging out with chicks in the garage as it was when I brooded in my office but at least the dust won't be in the house.

The setup I have is luxury compared to what a duck needs. Sheryl doesn't have a huge pond space, but more than adequate.

Yes, more photos would be awesome.

More photos! You can just close your eyes if it's too many chick photos or you are endanger of going out and buying more chicks for yourself.

Missy's cayuga

Black minorca on the right. The naked neck is in the middle in the back.

I believe the yellow with black one is the exchequer leghorn.

Naked neck in the center. Hard to see the neck in the photos.

I think in the front is the cream brabanter.

in the back, dark brahma on the left and blue cochin on the right.

2 speckled sussex in the front and then on the far right I think it's the silver spangled hamburg.

The chicken mama. If we're not careful, these ducks will imprint on her instead of a human. She wasn't happy that I kicked her out so I could take care of another client.

One of Sahara's cayugas didn't make it through the mail, so I searched all around and found two blue swedish at Sierra Feed that are the same age. I'll get better pics after I disinfect the house.

I think you're right. I thought it was the other way around, but Google shows the leghorn chicks having darker saddles than the hamburgs.

I got them home, and the ducks started devouring all the feed immediately. The chicks are hungry, but not like these ducks!

what a good guardian! Well, it's nap time in my brooder. they are all sacked out. You have 2 silkies, right? I have 5 so I guess an extra one got in the shipment. Hopefully that will boost our pullet ratio.

Funny, but I just PMed Sarah about hatching eggs. I would like a WC chocolate rooster for my WC chocolate cuckoo pullet. I could also use a WC blue cuckoo rooster for my blue girl that has cuckoo markings. I also plan to get some buff laced Polish from Tricia. Right now I have my eye on some bantam Silver Ameraucana eggs as well, from the person who originated this variety in the late 70's. Boy am I going to have fun!

Sarah has some beautiful little Chocolates. Are you getting any from her?

OK I think this hatch is done. I got 3 out of my eggs and one for my neighbor, but that little guy isn't doing too well. Not sure what to do about him. So only 4 out of 12. A couple had quit or were clear at lockdown, so I guess it's better than my 6 out of 104.

I lost 3 chicks from an older hatch. They started piling and when I went to change waterers they all cam running and the 3 were sufficated. One was one of my lavender eggers. So bummed. I did hatch out 3 of the from this hatch though. One is blue with feathered shanks. YAY! Those and lavenders and black with purple through the feathers are what I want. Hope some of these lay those pretty eggs. BTW I haven't gotten one in almost a week. Not sure what's up with that.

Yep, two! It's too soon to guess which gender. One acted a little aggressive, but that's because a duck was picking on it. I can't blame it for that.

I can't wait to see Sahara's face! I think I still won't tell her, until she goes to use the bathroom and finds the ducks in the tub. She'll probably still ask me whose they are. Just like she didn't think to ask, "Mom, are we getting ducks?" when she found the book Raising Ducks in her Easter basket.

And you know, my husband didn't even pause. He just grabbed his towel and went to use the other shower.

Those projects should keep you busy for awhile!

You'll have to take a photo of her with the ducklings. My husband went out to do a count himself to see how many new ones we have. That's when I noticed the extra silkie.

Well, it's a cold one. Hope your seedlings are okay.
